Fuel Filler Flap opens even when vehicle is locked

Featured Replies

Hi

Just want to confirm if its just me having this issue. We were shopping on the weekend and when we came back to the vehicle the fuel filler flap was open. I pushed it in and it closed properly but then it opened again when I pushed it again and all this happening with the vehicle locked.

I noticed a guy loitering in the carpark as we drove in who was eyeing the vehicle and I suspect he couldn't help himself and had a closer look when we left.

Did you refuel that weekend?

The fuel filler cover is part of the central locking so should lock when the car is locked - but only if the cover was closed at the time.

If the cover was open when the car was locked, simply closing the cover will not lock it.

You need to close it and reactivate the central locking to get it to lock.

So check it wasn't just a one-off. If the closed cover remains unlocked when the central locking is activated then have the dealer take a look at it. It may be a damaged catch or faulty electrics.

Thanks BillyJim, so far it hasn't reoccurred again. I must admit I did not look to check if it was open when I locked the vehicle (as one of the kids may have accidentally bumped into it). Thanks also for confirming that it will only lock again when you reactivate the central locking.

Not sure about the Superb but on my old Octavia the fuel flap didn't lock until about 15 mins after the car had been locked, something to do with allowing the car to be locked during refuelling.

On my Octy2, there is a pin that slides across to secure the fuel filler flap. If I have the flap open and activate the central locking, you can see the pin slide out and if I try to close the flap I can't as the pin is in the way.  I don't know if it is the same system in the Superb3.

Same as the Superb II, but it is a completely different mechanism on the Superb III.
