Skoda Octavia VRS 2009 Fan/Air Con Noise Help Please.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone I bit of advice please.

I have had my Octavia for 2 years I am the second owner. Ever since I bought the car I noticed early on its got this weird noise coming from behind the radio or towards the front of the dash. The noise can only be described as a heavy breathing noise a bit like darth Vader but quicker in short bursts. Only happens when:

There is no noise once the air condontion is switched on.

The noise only comes on after about 15 - 20 mins when the car is up to temperature with the air con off.

It seems to get quicker when the revs are built up.

I've recently had it serviced at skoda the robbing arses told me they fixed it. Well in all fairness they've serviced it checked for leaks and re gassed.

I haven't a clue what it is. It's more annoying than anything. You can't hear it when driving around or with the radio on but sat at traffic lights it is there in the background.

Is it a recirculating motor or fan motor or some or of flat or is it more serious. Like I said its more in the dash board but with that said it can be heard faintly with the bonnet up.

Sorry for rambling but I just would like it sorted before I part ways with it.

Would like to hear your views guys and girls

Cheers

Is that not happening when the system is fully on auto and what is happening is that it is automatically control the direction of delivered air, so when the direction changes, and a flap motor moves, you get the "gasp" as the air flow increases?

Edit:- are you sure that Skoda ran a diagnostics check to make sure all the flap motors are "happy"?

The noise is still present when the auto climate control is on it only goes away when the air conditioning is switched on. I've uploaded a clip to YouTube incase that helps incase anyone has heard it before

Is the hissing sound not an indicator that the air-con gas is low. Something to do with the evaporator behind the dash.
