engine oil - eurocarparts all over the place

Featured Replies

The question of engine oil has been discussed on here many times.but it still needs some work find a decent oil. I drive a 2007 1.9 tdi elegance octy , and do low mileage. It's due a service, so having looked at Eurocarparts and entered my reg number, the majority of the poils recommended for my car are just wrong, as they cite they are for use with a DPF. I now my car needs vw 505.1 spec, but this is the second problem, they do not mention the spec in their descriptions. I need 5 litres, not 4, as the capacity is 4.3 litres.

Can anyone tell me what decent oils are out there that meet this spec? I used mobil 1 last time but want to try something different, as to my ears, the car sounded a bit noisier than before. Should I stick to 5w/30, or is 5w/40 just as good, as recommended by some?

I know this has been doiscussed, but many of the posts are not reent, so I would appreciate any thoughts. Not impressed with ECP

Save the hassle and simply get 5L of genuine Quantum Platinum for £18.

This is the oil your Skoda dealer will use and is 505.01 approved.

The quantum stuff is good and nice and cheap.

As long as it meets the VW spec it's fine. Even the 507 stuff for DPF cars is backwards compatible.

Technically not what all dealers use but by far a great value oil and meets all the needs.

I have the same problem when using euro car parts. They seem to have a lot of oil but barely any of it seems have VW specs listed

I would stick to 5w40 505.01 especially if you are doing annual changes as no need for 507.00 unless you have a dpf or going for long life intervals. I think Asda do 5w40 one for £20 (gold bottle) and 507.00 for around £25 (purple bottle)

Not really, i'm sure the 507 spec has been around £20 before on ebay which covers you for everything
