Detailing Insurance

Featured Replies

My aim is to break into detailing eventually and run a business. Can anyone recommend a specialist insurance company or broker?

I'd also like to hear about those you wouldn't recommend and the reasons why.

All feedback gratefully received.

Nothing that springs to mind, then again it's not something I've really looked into to be honest

Never looked into this personally, as i only work on friends and family cars generally.

Always recommended it as a sensible and required step if ever charging money for details.

Amazing - many detailers skimp on this insurance - which i think is a false economy.

From people i have spoken with a decent liability cover can be taken out for less that £10 a month.

Given the value of cars you may well be working on - it doesnt seem much at all really in that sense.

I guess there would also be other insurances to cover you for driving/moving customer cars perhaps?

Let us know how you get on...

I totally agree, I'd be a tad apprehensive working on ANY paying customer's vehicle without a comprehensive insurance policy in place. I'm taking preparatory steps so when I'm in a position to start charging I can, hopefully, hit the ground running.

Having looked at the Coversure website via DW their policies seem very good, more so because those have been tailor made for detailing as a result of individuals within the company having first hand knowledge of what's involved.

Their basic policy has a premium of less than £100. This has certain significant exclusions such as moving vehicles and covering damage to vehicles worked on.

It's not until you look at the most two comprehensive policies that these are covered, with an excess of £500....still worth it for higher end vehicles, not so perhaps with daily drivers? It does, however, provide the customer with peace of mind I guess.

It's hard to look past a company like Coversure given their detailed knowledge of the industry, pardon the pun, but I'm sure there must be other companies to explore.

Insurance is certainly worth looking into. Valeters & detailers that don't use it are running a very high risk. I personally wouldn't scrimp on it if it was my business and lively hood.

Coversure are pretty much the go to option for the majority of valeters and detailers. I used them when I was detailing professionally. They can arrange cover to suit your needs dependent on what you're up to :)

Yeah, the more folk speak to the more Coversure comes back....seems a sensible tailored option. What kind of premiums can I expect?

Not a clue tbh - there are about a zillion variables that would/could come into play!
