Brainstorming! what would happen if...

Featured Replies

You had remapped your car with Jabba or similar, then fitted a tuning box?

Engine blow up or 210 BHP :D

Thought i'd ask, will never do it.

Could be Briskoda's mod of the 2006 :)

Did JonTDI run this combo on his PD100? Think it absolutely flew, but was chucking out quite a smokescreen. I'd guess that if the map was set up well, then there'd be no advantage of putting even more fuel into the engine....?

If I understand correctly a standard vRS runs at 1.3 bar?

Lets say a custom remap boosts that to 1.5 for arguements sake and increases fuelling.

A tuning box will be configured to increase the boost from 1.3 to 1.4, but if it's already running 1.5 it wont do anything except lower it down to 1.4 because new "worse" signals will be transmitted to the ECU.

I dont even know if a tuning box does adjust boost (I think it only does fuelling) but hopefully the above will give you an idea of what I mean?

Tuning box just monkeys with the fuel temp sensor and tells the ECU that the fuel is colder (?) than it actually is, which causes the ECU to compensate by injecting more fuel. So you'll get the power of the remap (including boost) plus a shed load more fuel, most of which will likely only be partially combusted. It'll give you a bit of a performance increase.......

Matt (FabiaTDI) ran a tuning box on his pd100 ages ago, then went to Jabba and he got ever so slightly better results than when I went with mine, :)

As he was remapped with the tuning box in mind, I wouldn't put a tuning box on to a Jabba remap - no way you'd be pushing 210 putting one on now. If Jabba couldn't get 210, no way one little box will. ;) I see it like 2 repelling magnets. :D

If you were to buy a tuning box purely for testing purposes, then take it off. Would it leave any residuals on the ECU or will the Jabba map just continue from where it left off?

How was John's mapped with a tuning box in mind?

Well, every car at Jabba is mapped to that car's state of arrival. Matt's arrived with 125/130bhp using the tuning box and Jabba mapped it to 149.9bhp, and it smoked like absolute buggery.

I got 147bhp totally standard by all other means, so shows what little good the tuning box did with a Jabba remap. :) No point bothering IMO. Might throw something out, probably make the car slower and smoke even more. ;)

The only thing I can see happening is more fuel being injected. This may give an increase in power plus more smoke or just more smoke.

I don't even see more fuel going in I'm afraid. If his remap is anything like mine the injectors will be wide open anyway. :) Infact, as a box just increases fuelling it'll probably sweet F.A to the performance of the engine. Would be more use stuck to the dashboard - At least you can see how pretty it is on there. :D

AMD said it would work but probably would fail the MOT on excess smoke

more smoke, **** economy... and probably run badly too.. :thumbdwn:

Add more air = upping boost right? Just checking. :D

yeah upping boost or making air denser by fitting a bigger intercooler

So really Hellfire should just bolt on an FMIC.

Pretty much - from what I've read on it the benefit from lower temperatures outweighs the slight decrease in responsiveness (by having more volume to 'boost up' as the FMIC is larger capacity than the standard SMIC).

With a map that boosts up high, temperatures will shoot up very quickly, so by the time you've changed up to 4th, possibly already in 3rd, less fuel will be going in than would be possible --> so less performance.

On my standard vRS (at the moment :P ) - I only really noticed badly when it was 30-odd C outside, and the car was fairly smokey too. With a remap I'd imagine you seeing it even on a day where it's about 22 deg C, which happens even in the UK

Or NOS :D

Yeah. lol

Had a similar discussion with Jabba about a PD Booster...similar to the 1.8T Boost Controller....but would only do some over fuelling...would give between 5-10bhp and a lot more soot.

What happended to the PD Booster? did they scrap the idea or can you order it?

scrapped.

No plans to re-introduce it and did they have a test vehicle for it?

I think when the idea's scrapped, then its scrapped for good :(

Hellfire, seen my sig ? :D

Love it! :D P.S. My dad's door won't open LOL.

Booked into the dealer to sort it out in 1 week. He has to climb in through the passenger door.

 the doors are hard enough to open anyway arnt they, even when they are working?

You need to get yourself a video camera mate and make some vids, i love them, love them to bits...
