Apple Play

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've just bought my second O3 VRS which I can collect on September 1st.

It's a dealer order spec with only a few selected options and obviously I can't add anything now.

Just wondering, is the Apple mirror link a hardware addition or can it be downloaded onto the Amunsden system that's already in the car?

Cheers

you can buy an activation code for it and just activate it on the unit - not sure on price but think its about £200 or so based on what i have seen on here

My dealer enabled Smartlink in my O3 for £108.

That's really handy guys, thank you.

Honestly I totally wouldn't bother with Apple Carplay if you don't already have it. It's useless (right now at least, until they make it more functional).

It is handy for reading your texts to you but a PITA trying to get replies back, other than that feature I do not really use mine.

I did come to that conclusion last night after watching a few things on YouTube. I use the Google Maps app as I find that the Apple one is shocking, I don't believe the Google app is compatible. Plus, I have Amundsen anyway.

Thanks anyway all.

Agree, if you have Amunsden little point in CarPlay, Android may be a bit better because there may be better Google Maps support but not tried it myself.

Before got the Octy hired a few Fabia's that have had smartlink enabled and was handy as a SAT NAV for my use and I wouldn't buy it purely for the Media or Message support.

That's a standard feature without CarPlay anyway.

useless - both of them... Don't bother.

Well, I'm actually really happy about my CarPlay.  :sun:  And the more you use Maps the better it gets actually - still not Google Maps, but it haven't given me any detours.

I have mixed views on carplay. I think the integration is poor - so for starters it needs its own button on the head unit just like media, or phone, so it's easier to select, and it shouldn't take over the whole nav unit when you get  call. Apple maps is a load of toss too.

But it is good for shuffling through music on the iphone, especially when you have a lot of it. And hopefully more apps will be added in due course...

I wouldn't be without it as I have an extensive music library on my 128Gb iPhone and it is streets ahead of the dreadful Bluetooth Audio library/folder system.

Also used Apple maps on more than a few occasions as it has traffic etc

Not sure my car reads texts without the car play as standard. If it does I wish I knew that, wouldn't have bothered upgrading the media to carplay.

On my mfsw it has a voice button but says it needs activating, speak to the dealer. Trying to get carplay added at a cost of £200incl vat, was bad enough so trying to get the voice features working could prove nigh on impossible.

Siri reads your texts back to you and you can  get it to send them too, no need to use the screen.......

Can you do this with the voice control from the steering wheel?

That doesn't work in ours, but my BMW is a long press of the voice control key for Siri.  You could enable Hey Siri so you just say that to activate her.........

The Columbus on mine will. although it has Carplay/AndroidAuto it will do the text reading when my HTC is paired via bluetooth (Carplay/AndroidAuto require wire connection) Not tried a bluetooth paired iPhone though

When an iphone is wired to the car and Carplay activated a short press on the MFSW voice button brings up the Skoda voice menu, a long press brings up siri. Works quite well IMHO

Yes, press and hold to activate Siri
