Tie rod questions?HELP

Featured Replies

Hello!

Today i went to the local vag specialist and asked for inner and outer tie rods, found out there are two different steering systems?

How do i know witch i have on my car?

Also what is the difference?

Thankful for all the help i can get.

See this thread for pictures of the TRW (most likely) and Koyo angle sensors. Look just above the inner end of the offside tie rod.

So there is no logo on the steering unit under the car or anything? Only sensors to look and find out what brand it is?

Well the PAS module under the nearside chassis leg will have two 4-way connectors , one either side of the main two-way power connector if it's a Koyo system, but that's harder to see than what I've suggested looking at, which can be done with car on the ground and a bit of torchlight...

Here's a TRW pump module with 4, 2,and 3-way conns:

The sides of the green fluid reservoir cap are fluted (vertical ribs) on TRW, and wider spaced ones on Koyo, but that's probably hard to see under your battery?

Check out the VW self study programme linked in the other thread.
