Oil filter type?

Recommended Posts

What's the best type of oil filter to buy or is there not much difference between them?

It's for a 1.8 TSI, it's only done 2.5k miles since the last service which was 2 years and 9 months ago.

If the oil is still brown does that mean an oil change isn't needed?

Thanks

Although I have a K&N air filter and the pollen filter is aftermarket, I would always use genuine VAG oil filters. You want to strain the life blood of the engine as fine as possible. I would certainly change the oil and filter after nearly 3 years, no matter how low the mileage in that time.

Stick to German brands such as Mann or Hengst you should be fine.

As for oil change you should go for fixed annual servicing rather than variable as its short journeys that is harsh on the oil due water vapour and the oil not getting up to full temperature.
