A possible suspect for my poor idle fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Ok so this has been annoying me for a while now I was hoping the timing was out as it had a belt before I got it, turns out it was all lined up correctly and I done a belt (proper timing tools and set spot on) and then proceeded to adjust the torsion value to specification and the judder was just as bad if not worse, retarding the timing to - 2.8 which is still within the values but obviously not ideally where it should be almost cures the poor idle but still slightly noticeable, from the picture you can see scoring on the cam lobe, my only assumption on this is the camshaft will be worn and setting to 0.0 causes a judder due to the timing essentially off due to the worn lobes, feel a bit more confident fitting a cam as if it was something else causing the judder surely it wouldn't change when adjusting the torsion value, I priced up a dealer kit and it's not justifiable so it looks like I'll be going aftermarket and very much OEM like for like, car is standard and intend to keep it that way, would anyone be able to recommend a good kit, seeing all sorts of mixed reviews on parts on here, I have no intentions of tuning, it's my daily hack so standard sounds good to me

There's some nasty looking metal swarf in the oil on the left, that scoring is on the base circle of the cam lobe suggesting a damaged lifter hiding under it.

Not sure if that's dirt or grit from lifting the rocker off but didn't see any signs of swarf to be honest

It shouldn't be in there that's for sure, you should always clean the rocker cover and surrounding area before taking it off, can you see the lifter under that cam lobe?

Yeah its all cleaned up when I put it back on, you can't fully see the followers, usually you hear the tapping when they wear through
