Anyone else had lots of bulbs blow?

Featured Replies

I've thoroughly tested the "bulb out" warning recently. Both dipped beams have gone within the last 2 weeks and last night a brake light popped. I'm thinking its just a coincidence but you can't help wondering. (all bad things come in 3s :D)

Anyone else had similar blowing experiences (of bulbs) ;)

No probs here :D Are those your PowerBulbs which have gone, or the ones they were to replace?

It was both my vision plus bulbs in the fronts, which were fitted more or less when I got the car, and they were in turn recovered from the wreck. ;) They'd done their time for sure.

Brake bulb may well have been the original one - 5 years old then. :)

Almost 2 years old now. Not replaced one.

Hope there's a bright moon tonight.... :D

My old Astra used to blow it's bulbs ALL the time. Once did an impromptu bit of Market research and found that approximately half the Vauxhalls in our village had blown lights.

It could be that some types of vehicles are prone to this

My Golf is pretty bad for going through bulbs.

If it's rear ones, try a bit of electrical contact spray on the bulb holder when you replace the bulb. I haven't had a rear one go for about 9months now since I've done that (touch wood!)

Different stroy with the fronts though- you need to take the bumper off the Golf to change them and I had one of my dipped beams go the week before Christmas. Changed it, then two days later a sidelight went! Back off with the bumper again!

Moon's poo. Cats eyes are much more helpfull :D

With all the various mods / changes that you've done, maybe some moisture / dirt has got into the lights at some point causing them to blow - just a thought :)

Nothing as yet... but you know now i've posted this :( !!

I dont think speed bumps etc. do bulbs any help.

Well, they've been in and out of 2 fabias now, so the fronts could easily have incurred some cack. In a wreck for a month, then in a box for a while, then in my car. :D Rears I'm not so sure about. I'm still bargaining on coincidence. :)

I love the bulb warning beep though - A great  over old TDI running gear.

thought I was the only one with this problem.

It seems that since I have changed the main beam & full beam lights i seem to have a blowout every month or so. I'm currently on my 3rd set of bluevision full beam lights and my 2nd set of h3 rallye offroad bulbs in 1 year (not that i use them on the road of course :D).

Wonder why? dodgy electrics?

I got the side bulbs + high beam bulbs replaced by the dealer as I couldnt bring myself to take off the bumper etc. Xenons as well so even more annoying.

My approach has always been to replace bulbs in pairs, and based on how much of a pain it is to change the bulbs I will probably do the full set again if one of the bulbs goes (that said if a single sidelight goes I'll put up with it until another bulb goes).

When I fitted the indicator bulbs I made sure I had a clean cloth (non-hairing kind) and dropped the bulbs in. Not had any grief with bulbs blowing so far, apart from with cars that had a minor leak in the unit.

Pretty amazed you've gone through quite that many bulbs though  - that's a LOT of bulbs :(

yes the sdi has eaten a fair few h7s and brake lights , stocked up on the aldi
