Superb II vcds ecu mileage

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I'm in the market for a superb II. I quite fancy one that I drove earlier this week. It's a 1.9 105hp from 2010. I have vcds 12.12 but if won't read the ecu mileage correctly. It returns 8 km / 4 miles.

I was always led to believe ALL 1.9 cars can be read by vcds.. not sure why this particular car won't comply.

My hunch is it is a late 2010 model and may not have either an edc15 or edc16 ecu, but maybe a edc16+ or edc17 and that either of these variants cannot be read by vcds?

Or that it is a Siemens ecu and not bosch and therefore not readable..

Clutching at straw really. Could anyone she'd any light on it for me?

I should have done a save when I plugged it in and use the vag number to get ecu model number.. but I didn't!

It's a lovely car but I'd really want to be able to verify the mileage before taking it any further.

That's the reason I'm limiting my search to 1.9. If vcds can't verify a 1.9 superbs then it opens up 2.0 and more hp. Vroom Vroom!

Thanks for reading!

You should update your VCDS, it's out of date.

They might have to buy a legit version before this can be done.......

Thanks for the replies. You are quite right about legitimate software - I have the lend of a hooky laptop while I search for a suitable car. I was on the phone to ross-tech in the states this afternoon about it and they recommended two different products to me. microscan for 249 dollars and hex+can for 349 dollars. I think thats very cheap considering what you get. Either would do the job they said. I'll certainly buy the hex+can if I buy a superb.. but I'd love to figure it out all the same to help make a decision on what, on the surface, looks a great car.

The bottom line is that the VCDS 12.12 on the hooky laptop is a hacked version to work with a copy lead, and VCDS 12.12 doesn't support correctly reading/setting many values on newer vehicles.

So you need to offer some "beer tokens" to someone local with a genuine copy of VCDS to interrogate the mileage for you.

Plus, remember that the mileage shown in the ECU is an estimate and not an accurate measure taken from the odometer so you should expect a small difference between the two values.

Thank you PetrolDave. Im guessing the 8km/4m is a generic error when it's read by counterfeit cables and/or programs, and that a genuine copy will verify mileage correctly? I hope so anyways.
