Company car choice.

Coming up for the time to choose a new company bus.

Pretty much between a superb se-business 2.0 150 and a mazda 6 se-l nav 2.2 150.

Both in estate flavour.

Prefer the mazda to drive and the engine is a peach. Superb slightly better finished.

Couple of questions- is se business now the se technology?

The only real thing missing from the mazda is car play. Is it worth having? Had a look at the apps, is it slick to use?

Any opinions on one versus the other?

This is a Skoda forum, we're more likely to recommend the Superb!

 

I've not driven the latest Mazda 6 (is it still based on the Mondeo?) but they do look smart from the outside.

I have that engine in a Mazda 3.

 

MPG is nothing near advertised btw. Mine is supposed to be 76+, I get 53mpg and it's not driven particularly hard or doing short journeys.

 

The ICE if it's like mine is not slick, it's not veyr intuitive. It does work fine but you need to learn to use it.

 

Otherwise a very good car. Well made, and well specced and the ride is nice if a little noisy. I assume the 6 will have better sound proofing.

 

Haven't been near the new Superb, so I'd advise driving both before you choose.

 

One other advantage of the Mazda, no adblue. They didn't need it for Euro V.

Haha, yes.

Having owned many skoda's, including my current company bus, i may fancy a change.

That said the superb is a nice place to sit.

Sadly, as I spend all day every day attempting to squeeze into miniscule on street parking spaces, it might come down to size.

Have driven both, although the superb was 6 months ago.

Mpg unimportant on company car, co2 /tax almost identical on both examples.

Do you carry much stock/samples/equipment (or even personal clothing)? I know a rep for a wine company who has a company Mazda 6 and he'd be better off in terms of load bay space with an Octavia 1, never mind a Superb 3!

Yes Ken, boot full always. Thought the boot of the 6 looked fine.

Got another one coming on Monday for a few days test, will swap my stuff over to it this time to get a better idea.

Also with the Mazda, play around with all the gadgets... I find them an absolute ball ache to use, especially the Nav system. If it's got Nav you'll know straight away what I mean when you enter the postcode! They aren't great systems to be honest and I'm not really a fan, however it is a nice comfy place to be and the engines are good.

Another thing with the Mazda is that if you get a crack to the screen, you have to wait weeks for the refit as the car has to go to the dealer to have its Rain sense and accident equipment reset! It's an utter ache! I've driven hundreds of different cars over the last year as I was so working with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and I have to say they were a good car, but if I had the choice... Well I think my current car speaks for itself :D

Waiting weeks for a replacement windscreen would not be ideal. Even having the car off the road for a day at service time is a pain.

And it would have nav, which I do use.

That's the problem with only having the car to test over a couple of days, it's still really hard to test the day to day stuff that would annoy you.

Had a mondeo 3 weeks ago. Was open minded about it. But only top spec titanium gets parking sensors, which is not on my company list. ( it was last shape).

It is a bit of a PITA. There are so many ways to do things on the car, touch, steering wheel, voice, second set of knobs by the hand brake; but they don't all do everything and some of the stuff is contextual. So you can only say nav commands on nav, same for radio etc.

Other stuff is on the OBC on the binnacle which is not related to stuff in the ICE, mostly, apart from the bits that are.

 

I find the postcode entry ok but it's not clear at all how you do it, dealer showed me when I bought the car.

 

I test drove a 'sport' which is exactly the same bar bigger alloys and HUD. Hud is annoying, don't get excited about it. Looks like cheap bit off a kids toy as well.

I would never have considered a Volvo V60 but while abroad last year I hired a V60 D4 auto. Personally I found it a great car - I wasn't expecting to like it at all. The only thing I would say about a V60 is its much smaller inside than a Superb, especially the boot.

I currently have a Superb FL which is due for replacement fairly soon, one of my colleagues has a new Mondeo Estate Titanium X, the other has a new Mazda 6 175 Sport but in saloon form. They both really like their respective cars so its really down to personal choice.

 

I know what you mean about fancying a change, and add in you've said you prefer the Mazda to drive and you like the engine - choice almost made.
