Octavia 1 Front suspension wishbone bolts.

Featured Replies

Hi All, Started to replace the front wishbones on my Octavia 1. The wishbone front mounting bolts, are they stepped in thickness, or are my bolts worn??? Thanks in advance folks, Stevie

from memory they arnt  stepped how bad are they?  are u cross threading them?  by the letter of the law you should i believe replace those

As above, it you are going to the effort of replacing the wishbones, then invest in new bolts is sensible, especially as they will be stretch bolts are designed to be torqued up once and only once.

In my experience even VAG "specialists" don't bother replacing stretch bolts and fail to mention them when quoting or doing the work.

There must be thousands of cars driving around with re-used stretch bolts.

Not all are specified to replace on removal as not all are stretch bolts. Normally torque to turn or coated bolts are replaced.

But if it is a Mk I Octy it is at least 12 years old now and therefore the bolts should probably be replaced when they're removed just to be on the safe side. Don't want to be relying on 12 to 18 year old bolts to keep you alive if replacing them costs less than a tenner.

Thanks for all the advice people, new bolts arrived today. Got the bolts from Bickerton Skoda of Sheffield, very impressed, sent me torque settings and copies of exploded diagrams. Thanks again folks, Stevie

What are the torque settings? I usually just set it to FT (kitten tight)

EDIT: Thats a tremendous autocorrect this forum does  :D
