Where to hire a VERY FAST car from? And what to choose?

Featured Replies

A project here at work requires a VERY quick car to test some new equipment.

I think i'm going to like this project ;)

We need a car that'll be capable of accelerating from 60-90mph within 300yards . Thats some rapid acceleration!

That practically rules out anything that needs to change gear within that space.

There are a number of 2-seat sports cars that could do this without problem i'm sure, VX220 turbo etc? But, the car has to be able to carry 3 people.

I'm thinking Audi RS6 or BMW M5....any other thoughts?

Will approach manufacturers first but if that fails where do you hire such cars from? I'm sure it must be possible...

Fabia vRS?

Fabia vRS?

Thank God the max test speed is 90 then

Aren't they supposed to be as fast as an M5 in-gear for something around that speed range?

Think it was Steve Cropley (Autocar?) said it ' felt ' like the shove of an M5.Don't know actual figures though.

Try these guys - they claim to have access to Bentley Spurs; Porsche Cayenne Turbos; BMW 760is; Merc E-class, S-class and CLS-class 55 AMGs...

...all of which should fit the bill, I reckon!

(Provided they're all they're cracked up to be, of course...)

Si,

I'll hire you mine. ;):D

qtr mile - approx 450yrds

so accelerating from 60-90 in 300 should not be difficult even for a fabia.

60-90 would have to be done in 4th - but could still do it comfortable for sure... Its not actually that quick is it - 60-90 in 300 yrds...

Up to 90 mph the Fab vRS sure has a reasonable shot at it, might not even have to change gear when in 6th to hit that target (would be best in 4th though at a guess)

As for the 'equivalent acceleration in-gear' thing, IIRC it's not the M5 it could keep up with but the M3, and it will only keep up for the 30 mph(ish) range, then the M3 would just keep going and drive off ;)

Company in Solihull, Birmingham are happy to hire Ferrari 355'3 to anyone with a clean license age 25+

A quick web search should dig them out.

Intresting about the Fabia vRS. I would be fairly certain that 60-90 in 4th would be less than 300 yds, dont know about 4 up though with equipment.

Maybe you could get hold of a BMW 535d? That would be more than adequate im sure

what you testing SI ??

can your Octy not do it in 3rd full boost 60 to 90 300 yrds shoudl be close... remember thought that 300yrds travling at a start speed of 60 will go by fast and you still need to get to 90...

(chipped?) volvo t5/saab 9-5 aero? each make 250+ bhp and tons of torque.

Subaru will have an STi Impreza for you if the driver is over 30.

One Thought here

Jason's modded Tdi.....

(If it makes it to the track)

Thats the current thinking Saab 9-5 Aero

With my poor maths knowledge i'm reckoning the 300yds will take about 6 seconds accelerating to 90.

The Octy might do it, have to see if I can get it on the track to try :D though i'm not letting a test driver out in it! The tests have to be run with a profesional test driver behind the wheel.

Testing a traffic sensor embedded in the road that's not only able to tell you how many cars have passed over it, but it reckons it can tell you how many people were in each vehicle!

 4th gear 60-90 is a very good range for my car. But, as Paul says if a 1/4 mile is only 150 odd yards more, and I'd expect my closing speed to be 90+ inside a 1/4 mile, then 60-90 in 300 yards sounds like a walk in the park, even for your average family car. :)

Now, 300 FEET is a different matter. :D

what the!?

how is it going to tell that?? espcially at speed between 60 - 90....

i tell ya what would be lots of fun to find out how fast you need to go so it does not register a car has even been over it.... like the top gear test with the speed camera....

saabs and volvos always come into my head for 'nippy' practical cars. my mates dad had a 9-5 aero and it was seriously fast! 250bhp/350nm... his new one however is getting a hirsch performance upgrade - 305bhp/420nm   will have to try and annoy him for a spin in it...

What sort of technology does that use?

A *WHEEL*spin? The Aero isn't quite as 'nippy' as you might expect. It's heavy and wheelspin in a standard car is fairly bad! Having said that, it may actually be Faster than a Fabia Diesel, but I could be mistaken :P

sounds more like big brother to me speed over time and distance call me cynical???

i still say its a seriously quick motor - 6.5s to 60 is no slouch for a fwd car that big. wheelspin in 1st and second maybe but at the speed he needs i doubt that should be much of a problem. i recon it would do the job (a hirsch version even more so)!

I tried this earlier. On my private track that just happened to have marker posts every 100m :o *ahem* Got to just over 85 after 300m, although this was a case of going a steady 60 in 4th up to the 'start point', and then planting it. There was a bit of a delayed response from the throttle as per usual with the Furby, but I'm sure if you were already 'on the way up' when you passed the starting point, you'd manage it easily...

On private roads, obviously! ;)
