Broken Key to replace - blade and fob

Featured Replies

We have a 62 plate Skoda Octavia estate and my partner managed to break the key off in the ignition yesterday.

We have managed to get it out and we are being quoted between £270 and £370 for a replacement.

Any idea where best to go and is it cheaper if you go to them ?

We are 42 miles down the A9 from Kinverness at Kingussie.

Thanks

Is it a 3 button flip key?

I just got a new one made up for £135 in Stirling, but if it's just the blade can't you just replace that?

As above,  If its just the metal blade part then theres no need for a new fob and the cost is coding it in.  At delmore cars we were about £150 I seem to remember, But now AC have took over who know's!!

Try this first            https://keysinthepost.com/

Possible you can send a barrell down or spare key?

OK we got a new key made in Timpson's in Inverness but it does not fit the fob so we have to use them seperately and hold the fob close to the ignition to start it or you get a Non Key message and it cuts out - will try keys in the post and other leads for now - does nobody know a dedicated Auto Locksmith near Inverness ??

I dont think you will have any luck in Inverness.

I have VCDS if you require.

why did timpsons not cut an exact fit blank blade?? You do realise that the blade will release from the "pivot" in the fob using a small pin punch (I  have)

I have stripped my old Fabia fob down & coverted it to a three button, so have some experiance with rebuilding them.

Thanks for the help will reply once we find a solution :-)

The top bit of your key pushes off to change the battery.

As such, get a new one and get the key cut, then swap the bit with the key attached onto your old fob base.

No coding needed, as your old transponder is still in use.

OK here is update :-)

All sorted and for not too  much money.

Went to Timpsons Key Cutters in the Insh's Tesco Store at Inverness - they are "automotive key specialists" - their words - but not automotive locksmiths.

We go another new blade cut from the original broken key that is the flip type and fits the original Skoda 3 button fob - all for £7 - so that is us back to where we started :-)

Also we ordered another complete unit for a spare as we never had a spare key with this car when it was bought - new 3 button fob and  flip key supplied and programmed for £150.00 only.

I cannot recommend Timpsons highly enough  and they were very very helpful - we will be using them again as not only do they do keys but the do engraving, house signs, sewing and clothes repairs, alterations - the list is endless at the Tesco Insh's Store in Inverness.
