Anyone had steering wheel refurbished? With alcantara?

Featured Replies

Hello, have anyone had their steering wheel refurbished? The leather on my steering wheel looks iffy and after a steam clean feels rough. There is a guy in Holland that can refurbish it with new leather. He also have the option to refurbish it with alcantara leather, but I am not shure this would match with the rest of the plastic on the steering wheel. Another option would be the Mk 2 VRS steering wheel, but that would mean issues with the airbag...

Golf Mk iv & some of the Audi steering wheels will fit with your existing airbag.

I swapped my octy one for a cupra r wheel, bit bigger, more to grip and nicer all around I think.

I'd be interested if you find someone though (especially if you get in touch with Lofty), as I'd like the one for my Fabia done.

As it's relevant, is the fabia vrs wheel the same as the octavia vrs wheel ?

i did once and its pointless for everyday driving,it wears very quickly.

google royal steering wheels they do a very good job

Agreed - I wouldn't go for alcantara on a steering wheel.

I like the perforated leather steering wheel on my mk1 VRS a lot and it's showing very little signs of wear as well. If I needed to replace mine I'd either get a second hand wheel in good condition or have it refurbed with perforated leather like the original.

Thanks for all the replies! I will forget about the idea of alcantara, it gets easily dirty with finger smears and I doubt it would match the black shiny plastic too. The LCR 210/225 steering wheel could be an option, but the logo makes it more challenging. The newer RS wheel is very nice, but comes without airbag which is the most expensive part (and some of the functions wouldn't work).

My leather had lost some of it's colour, but was getting worse after a steam clean and now feels very rough. Going to the UK for a refurbish is a bit too much, I think I will go for some new perforated leather with yellow stitches and maybe a 12' o'clock mark in yellow.

If he can use the original leather as guidance cost is around the £ 125.-. Of course I will upload pictures once it is finished...
