Engine Oil / Gearbox Oil / Brake Fluid

Featured Replies

Funny thing just to add, seen my old Mk1 Octavia today the car i used the Fuchs gear oil in. Car is running great the new owner has had no issues at all ( apart from a crank sensor ). So non genuine oil definately doesn't destroy your gearbox.

Skoda won't make the oil anyhow, so there really isn't 'genuine' just what they supply.

No it'll just be bottled in their own package. I've also heard the oil they supply is Castrol or something but i don't know this.

It changes depending on who gives the best deal.

So it changes oil suppliers i actually thought they used the same manufacturer. It does amaze me when people use the term genuine oil where they think vag get it from. Do they think they've got their own refinery!!

I didn't say it definitely would?! I said I don't think it's worth the risk and that it was my rule of thumb. If you search Google for "gearbox worse after oil change" you'll see what I mean.

Of course by 'genuine' I meant the oil that the dealers supply (whatever that actually might be) and by non-genuine I mean any oil not normally supplied by dealers. Maybe not the best choice of words but I'm sure most people get the gist.
