loss of boost

Featured Replies

Hi all, Driving home today on a dual carriageway, I was overtaking and lost boost, car seems to be in limp mode or just lack of power. There was no noise or smoke just lost power, Can't see any pipes loose, revved the car up and there's pressure in the pipe below the EGR valve. Turbo seems to be spinning, When letting the revs off there a sound coming from the turbo i've never heard before, Not loud but just a noise, Any advice Guys?

Sounds like your diaphragm has split , diverter valve is a revision D about 55 quid from dealer, dont bother with forge etc, the revised one is more than capable .--------------------ignore that ive just noticed yours is a diesel by looking at your sig as you did not say in post

VCDS found 2 faults..    P1696 -   Implausible message from steering column controller- Intermittent......

P0234-    Boost Pressure Regulation ---Limit exceeded  (Overboost condition)

Any ideas?

Sounds like sticky turbo vanes you can either get it cleaned up or get a reconditioned unit.

I have had this for a long time until it kept on happening more often managed to get mine replaced with a reconditioned unit.

Over boost is sometimes the turbo vanes sticking I think.

Just had under boost on mine - turned out to be the actuator which has been replaced. Not sure if that can also cause over boost.

You mention a noise - maybe a split hose ??

Not sure about the other error.

Thanks for the replies, What i can see from above the engine there are no problems with any hoses, I think i'll try some turbo cleaner through the system see if that helps, Hopefully...

I cleared the fault codes, Took the car out and it's back to normal, So it looks like it might be the start of sticking vanes.
