Bongs when key turned

Featured Replies

Good evening ! I used to have a MK2 vRS , then went away for a while and am now back with a MK1 vRS. I've searched and not found the answer so apologies if it's been covered multiple times.

When turning the key I get a series of bongs for about 5 seconds. Initially I thought it was the service reminder - no, then maybe seatbelt not plugged in - no, so what is it and can it be disabled ?

Pretty sure mine only does this if I haven't done my seatbelt up. Maybe a fault in the seatbelt mechanism or the wiring?

Mine does it on occasion and its the seatbelt donger.. even though ive only turned to battery..

just age related

Mines does it when the seatbelts not in before I turn on the ignition

Same here seatbelt warning.

Either seatbelt warning, or your car is smoking a hookah! ;-)

Doesn't make a difference if seatbelt is plugged in or not. A scan with VCDS shows no errors.

Is the seat belt lamp coming on while the bongs are going and then going out?.

Yeah, it's on but then goes out even if belt not done up.

Check that the wiring plug under the seat has not become disturbed with seat movement.

It's a 'feature' to remind you to plug the seatbelt in. Did my bloody nut in. If you have a feel around under the drivers seat you can disconnect the electrical plug underneath and no more bongs. Did mine 6 months or so ago and so much happier since...

Can it be disabled through VCDS ? Loom and everything looks ok.

I think it can be turned off with vagcom.
