Spark Plugs for TSI - latest part number?

Featured Replies

I'm about to change plugs and am trying to decide what to use; I'd prefer to get OE that matches the latest 'correct' VAG part number (though I appreciate that they have probably only changed part suppliers for reasons of cost rather than any compatibility, performance or reliability concerns).

So - 1.8TSI, engine CDAA, made in February 2010. An old-ish version of ETKA suggests both 06H905611 (=Bosch FR5KPP332S) and 06H905601A (=NGK PFR7S8EG) were valid upto April 2010, and thereafter only the Bosch are listed.

OK, sounds straightforward enough - Bosch it is. Until I do a cursory search online and find that practically everyone says that VAG changed to the NGK. And TPS website lists only the NGK as suitable for my car, even though they also have the Bosch available for sale. So perhaps I should go with NGK instead then?

Let's pull the existing plugs to have a look. Oh, it turns out that they are neither of the above, but instead #06H905621 (Beru I believe), which would likely have been installed by a Skoda franchise in 2014. This number is referenced far less frequently online and TPS don't even list it for sale - but there are a couple of American websites that suggest it does supercede the NGK/Bosch options.

Does anyone have access to current part data please, to end my confusion!

Type your reg into ECP and check the 'fitment' tab on each plug which will show if it tally's with your engine code. They won't be VW branded but will be NGK, Denso, Bosch or beru

Thanks and understood, but I'm really trying to identify what VAG consider to be the most recent part. ECP show up Bosch, NGK and Denso, with the latter two showing my engine code - but I also know that the Bosch fits and, at least at some point in the past, was used by Skoda for ths engine code!

I know they will all fit and I'm unlikely to notice any difference at all. I've checked with TPS and they say Bosch or NGK are applicable, but the NGK have superseded Bosch so that's what I'll go with.

When researching much the same question for my 2.0TSI, I came across more or less the same issue. Mixed information, but it did appear that NGK superceded Bosch based on what I could find on line. But then again, it also transpired that most people in the know were not using the same OEM spec plug anyway ( Double Platinum)  and certainly not the genuine OEM version.

From memory,  the genuine was £15 plus vat from skoda so £72 for a set of plugs plus travel to collect. No thanks.  I used the recommended NGK IX version instead and very happy  - there was no noticeable difference on changing as I only changed them preventatively at 37k miles .

Different people tend to have different brand preferences too with NGK, Bosch and Denso often being on someone's list.

Did TPS give you a part number or 2 part numbers as being applicable when enquiring? I would of thought different plug manufacturers would of resulted in a revised part number or revision to differentiate so they gave you two part numbers?.

FWIW I've also found the bosch online catalog, although a bit clunky, is quite comprehensive and allows you to select models, engine codes etc. For your car it lists:

Spark plug, Double platinum Bosch order number: 0 242 245 576 [0,7mm gap]

This is likely an aftermarket version of the bosch genuine plug.  If you go into the "comparisons" tab it lists all the OEM equivalents which includes both the genuine part numbers you started with!

Just looked at my old plugs for my 2.0tsi and what I removed, which would of been supplied at manufacture in April 2011 was 06H 905 611 - Bosch which is one of the two plugs you got from ETKA for your motor.

The Bosch aftermarket code above will be aftermarket equivalent and I doubt will be any different from a genuine part they're both double platinum.

I replaced with NGK iridium IX.

For something like spark plugs, I suspect that VAG's latest part is from who can supply spark plugs for the lowest price. A bit like tyres really. Some come with Dunlops, some Continental.
