FUBAR's New Entertainment Room - Build Thread

Featured Replies

Having had a mate renting a room since I bought the house which has been fantastic, he has now moved on and in with his missus and I have a spare room to re-purpose. As such I want to have an office / entertainment room. What will go in there is my current desk plus another identical one I have bought to place side by side. This gives me 2 footwells / work stations. One for main 17.3" laptop and a sub 15.6" one and the other for my G27 wheel with a newly purchased 4000:1 32" 1080p Monitor/TV right in front of it for gaming and movies etc when on the laptop. I have 2 Ikea Klippan sofas I got when I moved in for handiness which have since been replaced and one will go in there too and have bought some cheap storage shelves to place for random crap (they may go in the built in cupboard and put exercise bike in their proposed place). I have the carpet up and dumped and new one being put down on Monday morning then I can set about moving in and sorting out how I want it all.

Since I am loosing a nice little tax free element to my income I am working on a budget, but I have just added up total cost and it's £498.67 so far.... Still fairly cheap though monitor and carpet being the main costs... Am hoping to be all done Monday afternoon some time fully up and running :D

This is the plan (not exactly to scale but not that far off):

OK so where is the hi-fi and speakers???

Currently working towards dual-purposing our kids playroom to a playroom / man cave to act as a back-up to everything in the lounge...   got TV, DVD, Roku and sofa-bed in there already as a second viewing room and have decent speakers ready to go in - just need another amplifier.

Hi-fi? I've not had one of those in my house for years lol.

Reading the Title and knowing FUBAR I was expecting this   :giggle:

I do have one still technically and it's in my bedroom with my TV, PS3, Roku box etc. I don't tend to use it though as I am nice to my elderly neighbour in that regard. Wall desks and all tech stuff will be on is wall to next door.

Job done! Right here is the overview of the whole thing, now I have the time and space...

This is how it was originally in the other room with 1 desk:

State of same desk last night prior to moving today after carpet put in:

I still need to bring one of the PS3's up, but tempted to get another PS4 instead now the PS4 slim has just been released. Also desk on right is being replaced, it's the old one and same colour apparently... Will buy yet another one and fire it back into spare room where it will be handy as a dresser.

I can now stream The Grand Tour in 4K  :cocktail:

Brilliant. Id love to do that with one of our spare bedrooms but id be shot...

The old carpet looks like the same manky, almost industrial style, early 90s horriblness that was in all the bedrooms of our house when we moved in 6 1/2yrs ago.. the plan had been wait 12months and save a few bob before doing anything. I had that muck ripped out inside 8wks.. couldnt take it any longer  only shame was the floorboards were crap so had to laminate over them.

It was indeed some old 90's looking relic of a carpet. It worked well upon moving in as my lodger had that room and it was either you can keep that one and whatever happens to it happens, or I put a new one in and it will require to be looked after. It was actually really clean when I bought the place in pretty good nick all be it dated. Taking it up, it was horrific and the best decision by far was made lol. Trying to settle into the new set up in between weird shifts at work, I can have a movie on the 32" BF1 on the 55" and general internet and communication through laptop 'A' while laptop 'B' handles it's other duties in the background nicely. Best bit was Laptop 'A' can output at 4K when I thought it would only go up to 2K resolution  :cocktail:

Now that is a setup to be jealous of!

I like the set up you've got, but it should be renamed as a 'Man Cave'. I've got a man cave in my place, but it's mostly just 1 computer, but 2 screen set up. I have a G29 wheel for games though.

What's in the laptops if they can do 4k, is that with the gaming too?

What's next to go in?

Laptop 'A' can do 4K don't have that much in the way of gaming on PC's anymore due to PS3's and PS4, only ETS2, ATS, DoD & CS etc Other laptops couldn't come close to 4K lol. As for what is next to go in............ I'd like a PS4 Pro, but very unlikely in near future.

This is my idea of entertainment Fubar - it's great and £3/pint http://www.tinyrebel.co.uk/beers/fubar/

Ironically I was considering a fridge in here too. I have the perfect one in storage under the stairs at present which would be ideal! I bought it back in the day and I've kept it as new, served me well for over a decade before it went into storage.

Identical model to this one (googled it)

A late response to your post but I foresee a problem with that fridge - it has a lock on it. Make sure you either destroy the lock or the keys - you don't want a situation where you can't access your beer!

Had that fridge for over a decade never made the mistake of locking it once lol

Was more thinking that if you have an argument with your significant other that they lock you out

Not an issue as Archie lacks opposable thumbs
