Bit of buying advice/opinion if poss...

Featured Replies

Alright ladies and gents, I'm looking to buying an Octy facelift diesel estate and was wanting the CR 1.6 diesel, but as I'm fussy about the spec that I want, I've also looked at some 1.9 and 2.0 PD engined one too.

Anyone got actual real-life experience of the differences in fuel economy, reliability issues, servicing intervals etc?

Also, any UK based parts suppliers that are better than CZ based Super Skoda?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I can't help you with the diesel model performance / economy trade offs. I'm sure others will though!

On the parts, I have to admit I haven't used Super Skoda, when I've looked in the past, they tend to have quite a lot of customisation parts, bodywork / bumper splitter / Grille mods etc. but I didn't think they were particularly good for maintenance / renewable type parts. Skodaparts.com is Bickerton skoda and I've used them for genuine parts online and by phone and they are helpful and reliable. Their freight charges can be a bit annoying for little orders though, better to aggregate an order.

Also, I find aftermarket equivalents from the usual array of motorfactors are as good for some consumable items like disc rotors and pads, batteries as well as filters if you can live without the genuine marking.  Sticking to reliable brands like Mann, Bosch, Hengst and so on for filters.

I know others will have other opinions but I have never found the oem genuine for things like disc rotors lasts much longer than a decent aftermarket component.

Make sure you get a reverse parking aid equiped car it makes a huge difference when reversing, i would not buy a car without it now and the picture on our yeti bolero stereo looks quite cool as well.

I have an older vrs 2.0 16v pd it gives me 50mpg on my daily 10mile commute not bad for a 200bhp car so a 1.6 tdi must be better than this and cheap road tax as well for a 1.6tdi,

I used to have a 2005 black mk2 estate i fitted vrs 18inch wheels, eibach lowering springs retaining the standard ride qaulity and a light tint on the rear windows three simple things that transformed the look of the car, dont waste your money at super skoda some people have hade issues with returns and the quality of the products,
