MFD Oil Service indicator

Featured Replies

Had a VW garage complete an 'Oil Service' on my 170 Elegance. The 'e' service register was accessed and updated all in line with the correct procedure. However one glitch, the 'Oil Service' indicator keeps appearing when the car is started, it goes off after a few seconds. The VW garage say they cannot re-set the SKODA indicator on the MFD. Does anyone know how I can get the indicator re-set without going to a SKODA garage ? Tks,

If its on a fixed interval you can just reset it yourself. If not its a dealer job or maybe VCDS

A VW garage should have the gear to reset it.

They have obviously not reset it properly.

You have the same problem as me with my 2014, which I have posted about.

It first happened after 2015 yearly service and had to be reset twice. I know the garage had reset it as on each occasion when I left the garage I checked the display. It requires what Skoda call a "hot fix". The garage cannot do this first time around as they "have to follow the system". I will let you figure out if this is bull****.The garage told me some F/L Yetis have this problem, not all and it should be OK next time

After my 2016 service it happened again, and needed two resets to get it correct. So it was not OK.

I contacted Skoda UK. They informed me service resets, updates etc are sent to garages on a regular basis. If they get any feedback from garages informing them of software issues then they are sorted and built into the updates. Some garages are obviously not letting Skoda UK aware and the glitch remains.

Skoda UK did not like my next question about when I take my vehicle to a non-franchise garage out of warranty. I was assured that all garages have access to the information required, franchise or not.

So in answer to your question, the garage can reset the display, but not through the mfd. They have to plug into the jack under the dash. They/you alsoneed to contact Skoda UK and let them know about the issue.

Nope, ODIS is brand locked so you can't enter the details of the vehicle to carry out the test program.

You used to be able to access directly through self diagnosis and reset channel 02 in dash cluster but self diagnosis was removed.

Is this a sort of permanent patent protection?.

The diag equipment is the same across the group (although some maybe at a more advanced state than others). Each brand has their own software with test plans written by the relevant factory of manufacture. As the diagnostic machine is tied into the factory, warranty and front desk you can see why things can't be unrestricted. Although if you are a multi brand franchise you could load both onto one machine historically. But as the diag machine downloads vehicle info from gateway anyhow as soon as you plug it in it knows what vehicle it's communicating with and will reject a non authorised vehicle.

It's why I always kept a personal VCDS handy.

Hi Tech1e & eribaMotters

I have a good deal of trust in this VW garage as they have looked after my wife's Golf well (and extracted plenty filthy lucre for doing so).

In Inverness ARNOLD CLARK have the SKODA franchise and from bitter experience they must be avoided, it is so bad I actually considered changing my car from a SKODA as they are the only garage for, oh, 120 miles, Aberdeen being next.

Before I took the SKODA to VW I did get a firm assurance from the VW Service Dept that they can do everything required for a service but they did not tell me at the time of booking that they could not reset the indicator, and I didn't ask. They did appear a bit sheepish when we went over the service paperwork afterwards, beautiful presentation, and explained that they could not access the SKODA area that allows them to reset the indicator as it is locked to all but official SKODA garages. Frankly I am a bit skeptical. I called the SKODA garage in Stirling, who I have bought all my 6 SKODAs from and they said it was not a problem for them to reset the indicator, but they are 160 or so miles away. From all the info you two guys have supplied it looks like I must make a trip to NEWMARKET Garage in Stirling where at least I know I will get traditional SKODA service and the reset.

Thanks for your answers.

Mike

Or grab a copy of VCDS and reset the light yourself. Always an option.

ktm690rr, I have my Yeti serviced on island by the VW main dealer as we do not have a Skoda main dealer. He always resets the service indicator when I take it to him for a service.

So a VW garage cannot service any other brand even under brand ownership?

I would have thought ANY garage that does servicing should be able to reset the service indicator on ANY make of car.

I don't mean any further than that, but again any garage should be able to read and reset fault codes after repair on any modern car.

it would depend if the VW garage was fussy enough to not need to service other makes and so not need to invest in "make agnostic" diagnostic kit

They can, they just can't do it with the brand diagnostic kit. They would have to use something else.

Exactly, so they have the facility to reset the service indicator but have failed to do so correctly.

If they don't have any other diagnostic equipment then no they can't.

VW group dealerships should have at least the facilities as a back street garage, I suspect most of those will be able to reset service indicators so if a VW dealership service bay cannot do it they should not be operating.

I guess that depends on how much non franchise work they do. Most of the main dealers I have worked at have had a OBD reader but that's about it. Wasn't worth the outlay for anything specific.

So how much would VCDS cost and where would 1 get this from.

My car is out of warranty shortly and I would like to service myself. I understand you need vcds to swap out a fuel filter, is that correct?

Thanks

Link above.

Do NOT buy the cheap copy leads from Ebay, as they don't work properly, aren't supported and risk damaging the car.

Never heard about the fuel filter

To do it without possibly causing damage to the fuel pump yes.

You can with VCDS run both fuel pumps to prime the system before starting.

It can be done by supplying both the fuel pumps with a live feed but is a dodgy way to do it.

It can be done without all that but as Clint Eastwood says "Do you feel lucky"

a topic earlier this year i seem to recall!
