New car - dealer valet?

Featured Replies

Not sure whether to let dealer valet a car I'm collecting new week

Will it need washing to get any residue left by the protective film?

Just need some advice on what others would do. It could be that I'm being over protective

Thanks

I've seen unregistered cars being given a clean with a sponge, and this is before it even arrives at a Dealership.

If the manufacturers can't get it right I can't see a Dealership doing a decent job (unless they outsource it to a professional).

Not being over protective at all.  Personally I'd ask the dealer to not touch it.  Then take it to an independent detailer and have them give it the works.  Starting off on a good footing will see you right.

Having worked in dealerships and seen valeting first hand, I'd always want to do it myself, however, it's important to have a clean car handed over to you, it's the only chance you have before leaving the site to examine the car thoroughly for any dents, dings or blemishes which isn't easy to do if the car isn't in a clean state.

I have definitely have a touch of OCD and detail my car regularly. Hopefully I should be taking delivery of my new Superb Estate by the end of this week and will with a bit of reluctance allow them do the valet. As soon as its home ill debadge it and give it a full detail for my on satisfaction and peace of mind.

I would add though, if offered Superguard or similar for some extortionate price, say no, have it done professionally if you can't do it yourself.

Thanks. I think it must be easy to get sucked down the detailing route but I'm trying not to

I always think about all effort you could put in and then have someone crash into you

The valet on my new vrs was abysmal - polish left in various places on the bodywork, dust and fluff on the dashboard, windows streaky. Everything else from the dealer was fantastic. I bought another vrs for the missus a few months ago, same dealer, and that wasn't up to much either. Shame but that's how it obviously goes

It's just the same guy that does it as does the service valets.

If you wouldn't let him do it for a service you probably don't want him doing it for a new motor.

I guess a new car might come heavily waxed or still wrapped in that white film. They'll need to remove that to do the PDI.

Depends on how you intend to look after the car later on - if you're a £5 hand car wash type owner then letting the dealership prep the car won't be an issue. If of course, you want to look after it, and are buying privately, then I would recommend contacting a local pro detailer and having them prepare the car for you.
