Resync Key Fob Remote

Featured Replies

I put a new battery in fob and it no longer remotely unlocks or locks the car.

I know there are several posts and several videos on this topic, but I haven't found one that is specifically for a mk1 which has just a 2 button remote. I have another working key and followed these instructions but no joy.

Has anyone got a procedure for the 2 button key that they have done themselves and got it working?

Thanks!

I have done this twice now with new remotes, I got it off here but can't remember were but screen shot in on my phone.

1. Switch ignition on with working key (position 2) and leave.

2. Mechanically lock the drivers door with the second key (I left the drivers window open just in case)

3. Using the second remote press the unlock button once

4. Wait 6 seconds (or so) and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote will now be programmed.

5. Unlock manually with the second key, remove key from the ignition, close the door, try new key.

Both times I did this it didn't work first time, and a couple of times I lost both remotes, but with a bit of persistence it worked and I got two new remotes.

If that doesn't work it will be a fault on the remote.

Thanks. I tried this and no joy although at one point the led on the fob stayed solid for a while. Just to clarify. I assumed the dud key remains in the lock up until point 4? At what point do I remove it - after I have unlocked manually?

or program with VCDS

no, lock the door and let the key go back so the key blade is vertical, then pess the button. Sounds like it might be worth trying eBay for a new remote. Search hlo 1jo 959 753 ag there are some bargains out there, that's were I got mine from.
