Coppers like vRS

Featured Replies

Big Police presence near where i live a few days ago, pulling for vehicle spot checks i think. Bikes, Uniforms etc... Further up the road were 2 unmarked vRS about a mile apart, both having pulled over Chavies in their Corsa/Colt's

Guess the Police do have some taste afterall!

Was a small reason why I decided to buy mine!

You get to see two or three different ones catching people daily on the M3/M27, all of which are unmarked. I think they are remapped and tuned to about 245BHP.... Apparently they are quite quick!. Back last summer I saw one chasing down a Furby vRS... They may have taste but certainly no loyalty!!

Kent Police have a number of them (estates) as traffic cars now, replacing the V70 T5. Locally they use at least one as an area car. They look good in silver with the Police stripes!

I remember something on the local news (meridian) about 12-18 months ago about this when they wheeled out all the old Skoda jokes. Apparently the Police authority had drawn up a shortlist of about a dozen cars they thought would be appropriate and they were all tested by Kent traffic Officers. Apparently the Octavia Vrs won hands down.

Nothing to do with the price then?

Purchase cost will be a small consideration compared to performance, boot size, reliability, servicing costs, etc...

Tuned to 245 bhp? are you sure? That's about 2k of engine tuning, FMIC, exhaust, new turbo etc.

I think it'd be more likely to just have a "superchip" or similar on them, prehaps if they have some taste they may of got a custom remap but I seriously doubt it.

When i was chatting to a copper in a dealer in bristol he was buying a octy vrs for a private car and he said after the test drive that theirs were faster, but he didnt how they did it. the dealer mensioned that they may have had a word with skoda and a factory 'police spec' may have been ordered. another police chap who had a focus said when it goes to the coach builders for lights and stickers and stuff it could have well been done there??? but i spotted on a police focus (white 5 door estate) it has a 'RS' speedo??

or it could be just a urban mith that the police spread to make people think twice about trying to outrun them?

From what my friendly police man told me they just put the 225bhp chip in & away they go.

West Mids Police (Birmingham area) have 3 unmarked ones 1 silver & 1 black hatch and 1 black estate:cool: . :D the looks i get in mine especially if i wear a white shirt, how many chavies have i made panic and craw along below the speed limit when they spot me, Make the drive to and from Brum much more enjoyable :)

can confirm simple 225 chip inserted in police vrs-so a friendly police mate told me!

Kent Police are replacing their old Peugeot 406 area cars with the vRS estate. The traffic police are keeping the Volvo V70 T5.

The Skodas are not remapped or chipped - main reason being the standard police training only allows 190BHP maximum. They are having to review this though because of the higher BHP in the new vRS.

Always feel proud to be a Skoda owner when we do a job with the police and a fleet of Skodas turn up. :)

My force use them as traffic cars, although they're a couple of years old now. The newer cars are BMW 530s for some reason.

Most Traffic bobbies I know like them although prefer T5s for the open road - the vRS is considered an excellent 'town' traffic car though... one of the main reasons I'm getting one!

What simple 225 chip? I don't know of a tuner offering a 225 chip.

I recently saw a lorry load of white unmaked BMWs arriving at Winfrith!

My ex police vrs feels standard to me. I have only driven one other vrs but cant really remember it to compare it to mine. It came from Cleveland police and was an unmarked car.

Does anyone have any knowledge whether their cars are fiddled with?

I've always had good taste, well aquired better taste anyway after the Renault. ;)

The West Merci Police use a 55 plate silver Octy VRS.

I was in the Petrol Station in Evesham waiting for air for my tryes when I pulled alongside a Silver VRS. I was about to nip out and say hello when I noticed two rearview mirrors, just like you guys said before.

Lo and behold there was a uniformed officer in there having a chat with a motorcyclist.

More and more forces are getting Fabia patrol cars and I think a few use them as CID cars
