De-restrict airbox

Featured Replies

Hi guys I've recently purchased a 1.6 tdi greenline estate and after having a bit of a look around the engine bay noticed in the air box there is a little curved bit of plastic which I assume is to restrict to the airflow, I had the same thing in my old X reg Astra and after removing it seems to noticeably gain some Power ( might well have been all in my head) but i was thinking about doing the same with the superb.

My only concern is that this is obviously a lot more advanced vehicle and maybe I'm being a bit overly careful, but I was wondering if this would have any negative effect on the vehicle? Or if it's worth doing at all? Anyone tried this? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

It took VAG a long time to design and make that airbox.
Leave it alone the airboxes flow enough air without doing anything to them they are designed that way to interrupt air flow.    You need to go serious hp to justify anything else.
Yours will be 105 best thing to do is get it mapped have seen some people even get them to about 140/150 even then you dont have to worry about air restriction...

Removing the part from your Astra is all placebo effect. same as putting on a pipercross or KN aircone. Its sounds louder so therefore ITS faster. :D

Plus, if you get the emissions fix done, VAG are going to change the airflow anyways by putting some kit (a flow rectifier) in front of the air flow sensor.
