How Much Quieter are the MkIIIs over the MkIIs ?

Featured Replies

Thanks. Just checked a couple of reviews suggesting they are very quiet. Which again ties in with the reviewers comments.

I guess if Autodefuhl request a car to test, Skoda aren't going to give them one with noisy tyres.

I also use Dunlop Wintersport 4D on my MK2 and I can confirm, they are way more quiet than the summer Pirelli P7 OEMs fitted (that;s an irony, because summer tyres are usually much more quieter than winter tyres)

I guess it was up to the season: when Autogefuhl first tested the MoonWhite Superb MK3 2.0TSI L&K at the press launch, it was fitted with Pirelli P7 OEMs on 18'' Pegassus.

Ah...  Maybe I was being too cynical. :D

Perhaps another reference point: after a test drive in 190bhp diesel auto Superb hatchback (SE Business I think), I can confirm that Mk3 is actually noisier in both road and wind noise than my 10 year old Mk1 Superb Comfort 2.5V6 TDI.

Looks like Skoda seriously cheapened out on noise insulation to save weight, cost, and to make sure the brand stays in its place below VW and Audi.

I wish this obsession with weight saving would end. There are other things, Skoda !

In future builds, we may see electronic cancellation of noise. That's great if it happens, but I would caution ( not expecting them to heed ) not to use it as a way to strip out material ( it is sold as an advantage of such systems ). They should employ BOTH and not be neurotic about weight. Especially important if the system isn't working correctly, in which case it can actually make matters worse.
