Featured Replies

Hey guys i have problem with my 2003 skoda fabia 1.9SDI with air con .When i bought car it had alterantor problem it was squeeking and not charging battery. So i replaced alternator(used from ebay) bought belt tensioner(from scrap yard) and new belt i fitted everything and belt is to long not much but enought for car to start squeeking.Checked with my local store where i bought belt and they said thats its the right belt.I measured belt ant its around 43.7 meters.Dont wanna start buying all parts again and replace it .Can anyone give  advice what is possibly wrong in there are there are different tensioners for this car?  :peek:  :peek:  :peek:     Thanks guys!

That is some huge belt! No wonder it's slipping :D

Part 22 here. 1095mm.

Used alternator and ex-scrappie tensioner. Even with the right belt I can see another 2 possible causes of squeaking here!

Get one of these:

And if this doesn't work get one of these:

Be warned - this is a b1tch to fit! If your current tensioner is applying correct force then just unbolt the pulley and swap over if the fitment is the same. It will save about 3 hours of cursing!  I talk from experience!

on a belt it says 6PK1098

Well 1098 will be the length (in mm), which is only 3mm longer than the parts catalogue suggests; seems unlikely that would be enough to matter?  Have you still got the old belt?

  • Author

Sorry im bad on measurments. No dont have old belt but yeah only 3mm longer.Anyway i will put everything together and will take video that way it will be more clear, what is wrong :)

Just Googled 6pk1095 and it appears to be available, so not sure why you were given what you have.

here is the video. What you think guys?

Either the belt is too long or that tensioner is goosed.

Does the tensioner spring back and worth when you move it?

Even without seeing the video I suspected the scrapyard tensioner was FUBAR.

True. But you never know, maybe before removing they locked it off and that's not actually under tension.

I marked tensioner before i put it on to see how far it goes and its all the way in.There are no more space for it to go to force belt.

Yes it springs back.

So the tensioner now is rotated around to is maximum at the moment?

Yes

Well either the tensioner is faulty or mounted incorrectly.

Put a ring spanner on the tensioner pulley nut and push towards front of car to release tension on belt then let it go back. There should be a good range of movement and reasonable tension in the spring. If you judge this to be good try a new belt the correct size. If this still fails then a new tensioner is needed. TBH that one looks like the knackered one I replaced on the wifes car back in the Spring. Pulley was rusty and bearings shot. Sounded awful. Your belt is waaaaay too loose at the moment. Get it sorted before it shreds itself and causes damage to other expensive parts of the car!

I know this sounds obvious, but is the belt route correct, I have come across a few engines where it is possible to route the belt incorrectly and it's very loose. 3mm would not account for all that slack given the range of movement available on the tensioner.

Whoops. Silly billy, get the correct pulley or you'll overspeed it.
