Car covers, thoughts?

Featured Replies

So once my new car is ready I'm going to have detailed and protected with Crystal Serum as soon as it arrives.

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a garage so the car will live on my drive day to day.

But during a 'normal' week the car won't usually be driven so I was wondering if it was worth getting a cover for it and if I do what type should I get and is there anything I should look out for?

Anything that physically touches the paintwork (even with Crystal Serum applied) is going to inflict damage on the paintwork when the cover moves about in the wind.

If you must get a cover then I suggest the temporary garage types that you drive into.

I would avoid a cover at all costs as it will rub on the pain and wreck it over time. it should be fine sat on the driveway during the week just wipe any bird muck off as soon as you can and keep the wax topped up

Cheers for the very quick replies, I'll scrap that idea then.

I alway pour warm water over any bird muck to soften it up and ideally ‘wash it’ off the car before using a piece of wet kitchen roll to remove any that is left on, but yes do it as soon as you notice it.

My Crystal Serum is still beading water nicely 10 months after it was applied (nothing added on top)

yeah if its had time to dry I usually put a wet paper towel over it for a few mins and then it just wipes away... no scouring pads to see here :x

Totally agree with the replies above and will add 2 more thoughts: -

What do you do with the cover when you take it off, especially if its wet!

They can only really go onto a clean vehicle so once you take the car out for a drive it has to be washed before you can put the cover back on so in the time between those 2 points in time we are back with my 1st point.

I'd personally go with the 1st reply if you can't employ the 2nd reply.

I'm in the same boat as you and went for option 1 myself :)
