Headlight sealant/UV protection

Featured Replies

I'm going to attempt to repair the headlights on a relatives car, because at the minute they're awfully cloudy and yellow. I was going to get the Autoglym Headlight Restoration stuff, which appears to have nearly everything needed except it doesn't come with any long term UV protection.

I've looked at various sealants available, but most of them seem to be, I think, mainly aimed at paintwork or glass.

What's the best protection/sealant to use on plastic headlights? I'm looking for not hugely expensive if possible, but longevity is a must as it won't be able to be re-applied on a regular basis. It also has to be able to be applied outside.

Ive tried researching this before; there are dedicated products out there....

but depends what you already have in your detailing collection too.

Previously i have used FK1000p for this on my last few cars - no issues.

On my current car - i decided to use Gtechniq G5 after polishing the plastic lights.

4 years on - they still look like new..... and i'm very happy with the results.

So once or twice a year - i treat the glass and lights with Gtechniq G5.

As to what's the "best"..... i await some further input or options from the guys...  :thumbup:

^Thanks!

I might try some G5 actually..I could do the windows with it too.. Two birds with one stone and all that! Heard some really good stuff about Gtechniq stuff too (mainly on here! :) )

As for what I have in my collection; I have some Carbon Collective Platinum Glass that hasn't had chance to be used yet, so not sure what it's like and not sure if it's just for glass, not plastic?

Haven't used the Carbon Collective glass;

But I would imagine it should be fine.

Eventually I might actually get around to using it  :D When I do i'll post the results if I remember.

I've ordered some Gtechniq G5 for the headlights, and a little sample of FK1000p to try on my wheels too  :nerd:
