Today's detailing experiment

Featured Replies

The Golf's in desperate need of a clean, been busy detailing everyone else's cars instead!

As you may be aware I like the idea of a little experiment from time to time to try and reduce costs BUT retain efficiency AND a great finish.

So, this afternoon I was interested in the decon phase using my preferred BH Korrosol. I find this stuff magic for removing fallout from bodywork AND wheels but I use it liberally so a litre bottle doesn't go that far when doing a few cars.

Thus, I mixed Korrosol, BH HD Surfex and water in equal 100mL aliquots into a trigger spray bottle and went to work. I'd not diluted these products before with the exception of adding a splash of the Surfex to my BH Autofoam.

The 'mix' worked very well indeed with little product needed to do the test area of the front near side wheel and wing. The area was agitated with a brush prior to rinsing with a standard hose pipe on this occasion.

The paintwork was extremely clean and there was no need for claying. I applied recently purchased BH Double Speed Wax (I'm getting into the BH stuff!) and fell in love with it....so easy to apply and remove and provided a great finish with super small beads when sprayed with water.

You can't! Some may question 'Why?'....I say 'Why not?'

Granted, this is a one off experiment and I need to use the same formulation on other vehicles, but.......if it routinely works and does what I need it to do, then I'm reducing the cost of the Korrosol, one of the products I use most in terms of quantity. Result!

I also tried supermarket window cleaner and added a little BSD and ammonia.......cracking glass cleaner for a fraction of, say AG Fast Glass.

If it works for you and gives you the result that you're after then happy days. Cutting two processes down to one is very attractive!

Exactly, and it's not about cutting corners, it's about time, efficiency and money.  No matter what reason everyone has for detailing it can become at costly and time consuming process, very rewarding and enjoyable, yes, but if you're trying to make it pay then these factors are critical.

I enjoy experimenting and trying new methods....makes life a little more interesting for my detailing!

Very well said! The decon process is so important to getting the best longevity and clarity out of a chosen wax/sealant. But can also be neglected. If you can kill two birds with one stone, then happy days!

Very interesting experiment indeed.

Still - looks like you managed it in one hit and not multiple passes etc.

You seem to have a good grasp on the basics and what you want to achieve... great to see.

Pleasure Ste, thanks for your positivity! I'm here to learn, especially from you and the other experienced detailers on the forum but I also like to be 'me' too and put my own spin on things!
