Keyed

Featured Replies

I have an 11 day old, 1.0tsi 110 Polo SEL. Don't panic, my misses has inherited my beloved Fabia.

Yesterday, somebody keyed it.

It is a good 20" long across the driver's side rear quarter. It just involves the one panel. It's definitely down to the primer.

I've never had to deal with any bodywork issues before but want to do it properly. Should I be going to the dealer and asking who thy use? Or should I try somebody like Chipsaway?

I live in Bristol.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Oli

Try "just car clinic" I have several friends that have had work done by them and say how good they are. Not VW approved so don't know if that my influence you with body warranty. Depends how long you keep it I guess. However, the quality of workmanship is as good I believe and at half the price I'm told.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Keith, I'll have a look into them.

Warranty I'm undecided on. It is on PCP and I will likely upgrade it in 3 years, but obviously circumstances do change. At the mi Ute I just want it to disappear so I feel less angry!

My friend was insured by Aviva and they were one of their approved repairers. Think you pay an additional premium if you insist on VW approval with them.

I can feel and see your frustration and annoyance Oli3000.

Hope it's sorted soon.

Use a chips away like company with recommendations as the insurance will go up and cost more over the next year's than the repair will cost.

If you think it will happen again, use a light polish to take the edges off it and then use a wax crayon to cover it up for a while. That way you can get multiple done in one hit.

Oh and inconsiderate ******s.

Interestingly there website doesn't seem to be working and there are some news stories suggesting they've been bought out? I'll keep investigating! Thank you for your help.

I was on a work training day, in a private car park in the middle of nowhere. It seems to have been a freak incident - but you never know. My excess is £250 so I was intending on paying for it outright, anyway. But I've no idea how much a proper repair might cost me. I actually have VW insurance (it's free for first year) and they recommend some bodywork companies on their site who I might try. Chipsaway concern me that it is just done on the side of the road with all the dust and weather issues that may bring!

I thought you could take your car to any approved  boby shop you like without penalty. I think Insurance Companies get a payment for sending customers to " Their " approved repairers.  My son once had to take his car to Body shop approved by a very well Insurance Company and the repair was a right mess, had to go back 3 times.  I wouldn't take a scrap car there now, god nows why there still trading

Thank you for all the recommendations. I've opted, due to its age, to go for having the panel resprayed by the VW approved guys with a further guarantee and continuation of my warranty. If it was within 6 months of the end of its PCP I think I could tolerate a smart fix, but the advice seems to be don't do this if you want it to last a long time...

It's only £300...
