Cordless vacuum cleaner

Featured Replies

Hi I'm looking at her dyson v6 but just noticed the black and decker dustbuster flexi auto which is £100 cheaper. Has anyone got the dustbuster? Is the dyson much better

Thanks

Dust Buster's have been going a very very long time I can remember my mum and dad having them 20 odd years ago but they are average in terms of power, we have had one for about 6 years but the power is nothing compared to the Dyson handheld. Can't say anything for the newer Dust Busters though.

IMO the Dyson's are brilliant pieces of kit and I have wanted one with the motorised floor tool for years just because its powerful enough to do a decent job rather than getting the corded vacuum out but I haven't been able to justify the cost of them at all. The run time isn't brilliant though but they seem to be more fixed on making it lightweight rather than putting a decent sized battery on it.

A friend has a Dyson V6 and I'm well impressed with it.  Very tempted with getting one for upstairs to save lugging the DC07 up and down.

Have debated the Gtech multi instead though.

The Black & Decker Dustbuster was around when James Dyson was still in nappies.

£99 of the £100 price difference is going on the Dyson brand/image and their advertising campaigns.

If your number one requirement is to clean the car interior go for the Black & Decker.

Good review here...

What voltage are you looking at 10.8V, 14.4V or 18V?

My folks have the GTech and are very happy with it.

Think it said 12v on the box

Ah, 12V car cigarette lighter plug, it doesn't have it's own rechargeable battery?

No don't think it does. Just checked the specs and its air watts figure is 12.5 compared to the dyson 28 - which may be too low

I have the Dyson and it really is superb. It's not really up to doing a full medium-big house, but is fine for a flat or perhaps a smaller 2 bedroom house. The floor sweeping heard is terrific, but it isn't very wide and the dust collection bucket isn't terribly big. But for doing bits and bobs of vacuuming it is hard to beat. If you press the Turbo button, it sucks as well as a full sized mains powered cleaner! only don't expect the battery to last too long. It is super light too, something I didn't expect :)

I use it to do a couple of rooms at a time and it is fantastic for doing the stairs. Plus of course, it is great for doing your car, especially if you get the bendy hose car tube thingie  :)

Big three bed + boxroom detached 30s house, large hall.Carpets in three double bedrooms, stairs, big landing. All downstairs is wood floors, three rugs. Our V6 and attachments does it all providing the turbo button's avoided. Gave our full size Dyson to daughter.

Also excellent for the car, except the lack of a flexible hose - the V6 is a bit too big to get everywhere with ease.

Maybe I'm just dirtier than you.... :D

There is a flexible hose kit for the V6,

I think it might even be called the 'car kit' (don't hold me to that though)

We got the PD1800 18V B&D Dustbuster to replace our knackered Dyson. The replacement has been better in every way; more suction, more useful with the flexi hose and the battery lasts much longer too. Only downside is the charger is surface mounted rather then wall mounted. I think we only paid £57 through Costco.

I bought the exact same one from Costco. With the metre long extending hose and the 3 different attachments, it's great for nipping out to the car for a quick clean up after a journey.

I test drove several cordless cleaners, but I came to the conclusion that the Dyson was the best by a comfortable margin. The downside is of course, that they are ruddy expensive :(

It comes down to having the (currently) latest lithium ion battery tech.

The hardware beyond is just the glitz AFAIC

My old B&D is useless because the old technology battery has long ago lost it's (old tech) memory .

Good stuff

I need a new one but I don't want a heavy version of the old dust buster.

What voltage do I look for.........dealing with dirty car floors?.

Are we still discussing all types of Cordless or have you whittled it down? I had a quick look at my V6 and it's got a 21.5V battery :)

I just want a replacement for the old dust buster which sits on its charge stand........those old one barely lasts a full minute.

The V6 does nearly 20 minutes on a charge, but I often use the turbo mode as it sucks harder than Jim Davidson at a racial equality meeting. The plug on head does mean it has a proper beater brush like a full vacuum cleaner and it doesn't spin until it sensors the head is moving (so it doesn't sit and burn the carpet...just like the grown up Dysons). It is still incredibly light. The motor is pretty powerful as you can can testify by the warm air that comes out of it in turbo mode :) I don't know if you can justify it on price though, if it's only going to do occasion spot work. It does however suck up mad wasps :)

Well, I went to Shepparton and bought another B&D dust buster, TBH said I didn't have the Li ion one, me being the knower-of-all-things said "nah, they would all be lithium these days".....oops......wrong!

They were selling the old ni cad version ......for the same price FHS!

So the 18v lithium version cost us $149/~£90

V happy

I have the older (DC44) cordless and it's a brilliant bit of kit.

I love the wall mounted charging stand.

We have a pretty large house (3 bedroom, conservatory and a separate annex with a gym, spare room, kitchen and bathroom).

On one charge I can wiz round the house and do a full clean. But it won't last long enough to then go round with the hand tool to get the skirting boards and stairs etc.

It does encourage you to do some everyday though.

As for cleaning the car it's ok but it's limited battery mean it's only suitable for a quick clean and you don't have enough time to get down all the sides of the seats etc. The fixed hand tool on the front means it can be a little awkward to get into the tight spaces.

I normally use our old corded cylinder vacuum to do the car but use the dyson with the heavy duty brush head to do the floor mats as it does a cracking job.

I use one of these, but then I already have several of the rechargeable DEWALT 18V 5.0Ah Li-Ion battery packs, this is where the cost is...
