brake fade

Featured Replies

My vrs has 11k on clock, noticed in wet weather the brakes are poor and takes couple of applications for them to feel ok. Its only really in wet.

Is this why others have upgraded to 312mm brakes?

I upgraded because I din't like the inconsistency in the standard breaks.

It's not particularly the situation you describe, but I never felt I could rely on how hard I pressed the pedal to cause the same amount of breaking in more than one of the same situation.

I never thought the standard brakes were bad, just didn't like the feel of them. The 312's are exactly how I wanted the breaks to feel.

I'm pretty sure that what you're describing isn't break fade though. How old is your car? you may be due a fluid change.

I find it quite a common event in the wet too, and i'm sure in the manual it tells you to dab the brakes every so often just to keep them clear of surface water.

I have the 312's too and they are still quite unpredictable after a long spell of non braking driving in the wet or straight after a wash.

indeed as the big man said! If making progress I try to test break before I need to that way I know they are working.

It'll be wet/corroded disks - a couple of uses and they should be fine. That'll happen with any size disks unfortunately, especially if you don't use the car every day.
