leather steering wheel retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new user and the proud owner of an Octavia 2 litre TDi Ambiente. I would be grateful for a bit of advice on retro-fitting a leather steering wheel. I believe this can be done but does it mean sacrificing the air bag?

Thanks in advance,

Just buy a leather one from a Skoda dealer and get them to fit it with the air bag at the same time.

:)

Is the steering wheel the same design as the original one apart from the leather rim? If not you might well need to buy the airbag designed for it. The price for the old Octavia is circa £415! And you can't use the steering wheel without the airbag because you would be looking at a rather large hole where it should be.

Price for leather steering wheel on the octy 2 is

The centre badge is part of the airbag - unless you mean to stick the correct badge on top.

And I thought Skoda was supposed to be cheap... I guess a lot of that price is in the Air Bag.
£415 is for the airbag on its own. If you think that is expensive, how about circa £678 for the passenger airbag in the dash.

Thanks everyone, that's really great advice. I'll buy a Skoda leather steering wheel from dealer and ask him to fit with existing airbag.

Chris I'll probably go for the gear stick and gaiter too.
