Coast 2 Coast..

Featured Replies

Sat at the hotel in Blackpool setting off for Bridlington in the morning.

Anyone done simular rides?

I cycled Way Of The Roses with my brother a few years ago. Took it steady and completed it in 3 days (my brother rarely rides bikes). We had a great time spending some quality time together so looking to-do something similar with my brother & sister in 2017.

I'm also going to have a cycling holiday with my 9yr old son, this wont be big mileage but will/should be a good adventure as he loves cycling & camping of which we shall be doing both, thinking about the Sustrans network in Wales (possible spending a day or 2 around Snowdon doing some mountain biking)

I keep saying I'm going to cycle the Leeds to Liverpool canal but that's as far I've got. I walked Whitley Bay to Gretna Green a while ago and enjoyed that although the weather was miserable.

Hope you enjoy it and the weather isn't too bad for you. Are you riding as a group?

Did the official coast 2 coast Scotland last year.

Was lazy and did it over 2 days.

Just got home now. 160 miles 9000ft

Not a bad solo ride over 2 days.

On my own..

Had the wind in my face for two days. Since when does the wind blow from the East with rain? Posted a vid on Facebook at one point i was going up a hill, the water coming down was a good 2" deep and hammering it down.

I'll upload them when i'm sat down :-)

Sod's law when you attempt anything like this the heavens will open, now you've finished, and well done, the sun will come out again.

There's four of us going to do the Coast to Coast next year, just trying to up the miles at the minute to get used to being in the saddle for so long.

A fella from work attempted it this year, had an incident with a dry stone wall and ended up smashing his arm in three or four places  :peek:

I was originaly doing it with 15 others over 4 days in June. But i fell off training for it and broke my arm and wrist. So thought i'd challenge myself and do more miles and less days.

We are planning on doing it in three days, a couple of police officers from the Durham force (I think) did it there and back in a day recently! :peek:

Well done everyone, love my Cycling. I want to do the Roses route, and the coast & castles one too

I did Whitehaven to Scarborough over 2 days last year with some work colleagues. Hard Knot Pass was interesting to go up (33% in some places!!) but not as scary as going up Sutton Bank with the amount of traffic on the road.

Doing the way of the roses this year from 26 may to 28th may. Doing it with 4 other people over 3 days but staying in morcambe overnight on the 25th, and Bridlington overnight on the 28th before we head home. Not done anything like this before but really looking forward to it......apart from what looks a horrific climb out of settle and a short and sharp climb just outside burnsall. Other than that can't wait!

Also booked in for the charity ride for norpip round silverstone circuit on 1st may this year. Have done this before and it's a nice way to get the miles in the legs.

The climb out of Settle isn't that bad, once you are at the top there a quite a few miles of steady downhill and undulating roads & the scenery is stunning.

Where are you staying on your overnights during the ride?  When my brother & I did that a few years ago, we stayed in a B&B in Burnsall (Wharfe View) and had a great evening meal overlooking the river Wharfe & the pub, this left the last climb until the morning of day 2 & freshly rested legs for my brother.  The ride down Greenhow Hill into Pately Bridge is Awesome, so much so, I rode up it again just to-go down it a 2nd time :)
