Voice control

Featured Replies

I've got the Amundsen Nav unit and one of the buttons on it says "Voice" and when it's pressed, a message appears on the screen saying to contact the dealer for an activation code. So I did. They had to ring me back after consulting Customer Services and the answer I got was, it's not available on Fabia 3 yet and will be included in a software revision to come, date unspecified. There will be a charge expected in the region of £160 ish too.

If it's included as an option, why do you have to pay for it to be activated? My MINI had it and a few BMWs so it's nothing new, just handy but not £160 handy.

VCDS to activate it in the future do we think or will it be a dealer only job?

Its a £30 option on the Options list.

I have a monte witha Bolero.

The voice control.button on the wheelis useless unless held when Apple Car play is in use for Siri

Yup, I splashed out the massive £30 on Voice Control, works to change radio, media, change album etc....

If you don't spec it you have the button, but only seems useful if you use AppleCar Play or similar

VCDS is becoming less capable at performing these sort of retro fit tasks these days.

Does the button still work to activate Siri if you don't spec it??

Yes providing phone is plugged in and also works with "ok Google" on android

Which leads me to think that vcds is becoming more and more a less useful tool now

Manufacturers seem to have got wise

Ross tech will always be always be playing catch up as they have been but even more so now

how long before someone attempts to code something and bricks the car a few people have had issues with mib2

Yes only when using Apple Car play. You hold down as if you would use siri on the phone its self

To be honest given how simple the touch screen/radio is to use, and changine stations and tracks are easily done on the wheel too. Id doubt id use the voice control all too often.

That said had i factory ordered the car i may of spec it for £30....

I bought the car as it was already built. The button is there but I can't use it. Dealer says it needs an update which isn't ready yet. Are you saying that you have it and it works on a Fabia 3?

Yes I have the button and it works as it should, you can change radio stations, radio to media, select albums etc....

As I said, it was a £30 option as a factory order.

I was same as you brought an already built car with out voice control, like yourself the button is there when pressed I get the same message. IF I plug my IPhone in the USB. I can hold down the voice control button and that activates Siri via Apple car play through the cars radio/speaker & mic system.

As wi another user above he gets the same result for His Andriod phone for android auto

Got it thanks. I'll give that a try. I'm finding it a bit odd that the phone can be Bluetoothed or accessed via the USB through apple CarPlay but they're mutually exclusive.

Well bluetooth opens the car up to multimuple types of phones rather then restricting to those that focus on Smart Link, android auto and CarPlay.

Personlly for i always have my iphone linked via usb as i like to use my phone for music, plus the abilty to use SIRI help read and send Texts on the go.
