Dirty Rear End ???

Featured Replies

roll on summer!!

and then it will be bug guts and tree sap!

Its the spoiler that makes it worse,it creates a small negative pressure just beneath it which helps to draw dirt up,notice how cars without them do'nt get quite as dirty.

Its bloody annoying how the back get quicker so much sooner than the rest of the car

Do you want to rewrite that Tom?

I quite like having the rear end, and the front and sides filthy.... I call it the "Rally" look

I've not washed mine since November. There's not alot of point.

After a while it starts to clean itself anyway.

I've got no choice but to wash it down a bit every couple of weeks, even if I let it get very dirty - otherwise I'll get pulled by the local police for not having visible plates. I'd rather not risk it :D

Looking at the pattern of muck on the back of mine, most of it is other people's crud: the outsides, where the mudflaps are, tend to be cleaner than the middle where spray is drawn up from under the car.

Having a rearward-pointing exhaust rather than a coat-the-road-in-soot-so-the-next-guy-gets-it downward pointing one doesn't help either.

My TDI also got grubby, but Nature Green is great for hiding muck.

I've found most of the crap is just road crud.

It's a mixture on mine. When it was REALLY cold at the start of the month, I'd start off and there was quite a bit of exhaust vapour. Rather than that coming out of the exhaust normally, I could see it coming up from the exhaust almost vertically! So that will have covered the rear nicely in particles, and shows that air around the back of the car gets sucked onto the back of the car :D

I don't get a lot of visible smoke on mine, only if you really boot as the turbo's still spooling up. Or maybe if you need a quick rise in speed when in 6th (but not big enough to shift down to 5th, or 4th :)

Saturday has been designated as cleaning day, as it looks like it's gonna be dry here and hopefully (relatively) warm. Might even post some pics when I've finished
