New Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

We've had our new Monte Carlo 110 tsi for a couple of weeks now so here's a few thoughts on it. I suppose i am unfairly comparing it to my SE and another vRS we just sold but obviously owning both, that's what I'm gonna compare it to.

First impressions...Looks great. Bought Candy white with 17" Savios and got mudflaps fitted. The sales staff were impressed too saying it was the best looking one they'd done. The black grille, mirrors etc and the panoramic roof all add to the effect.

Fit and finish...Excellent. Beautiful paintwork and a quality feel which I was fully expecting as all my other Skodas have been. Doors don't have quite the same heavy "thunk" when you close them though!

Equipment...Excellent again. Fantastic infotainment system and all the goodies you need, except, no one touch windows! Pretty archaic. Bit too much red in interior.

Driving...Good. Goes ok, rides and handles well, lovely light steering, clutch and brakes and the usual fabulous gearchange. Performance wise, adequate is all I can say. Goes well for what it is but comparing to my SE, nowhere near. Refinement wise, very good. Apart from moving off, engine is smooth and quiet til you get up past 3500rpm then it sounds a tad strained. Obviously will loosen up with mileage.

Economy... Fairly good. So far 36.1 mpg using it exactly the same way as our old vRS we just sold. It did 46. On all uses/journeys so far it's 10 mpg down. Won't get anywhere near the amazing consumption you can get out of the diesels on a long run. I've had into the 70's on a number of occasions, easy! Time will tell with this one what's achievable.

All in all I'm delighted with the car and look forward to using it over the next 3 years. Just thought I'd share these with you. Love to hear what you all think.

Derek.

So far it's all town work. A lot of stop/start and a couple of wee runs.

I've come from a MK2 Monte. Which I feel in love with when I first saw it, it was something different then the typical corsa or Fiesta.

The red and black colour scheme worked for me.

Having lived with my old one for 4 years and moving in to a MK3 they have just improved it all over in my opinion.

My only gripe would be offering 16in wheels as standard ruins it. So I made sure I had he 17s.

I like he fact the sports suspension is an option, but also lowered the standard Monte Carlo a tad. As for my the standard suspension on the old version could be a pain on commutes. A bit too stiff and fidgety, the only thing that stop me hating it was it was so much fun to use on twisty roads at the weekend.

So in my MK3 I only have Standard suspension, which feels far more refined, from what little of fun I had with mine in only week, it still seems to have enough about it to have fun with. So hopefully best of both worlds,

I pretty much agree with everything else you say. Fit and finish in side is a massive step up, ok some rough plastics, but to be expected, but the trim that runs across the dash does well to add something to it, a big improvement on the previous one.

The infortainment is great, I suspect mainly people that make the most of Apple Car Play, andriod auto and mirror link wil, get that benefit, having read up on Smartgate, think it would of been a nice extra but I suspect the novelty of it would of run out lol.

Styling of the Fabia overall it loads better then the Mk2, but if focusing on just the Monte Carlo versions... I like how much more aggressive the addition Front splitter, rear defuser and roof spoiler look. I'm glad the they done away with the wheel arches and joy I all the body kit together. It means I will actually be able to fit mudflats!!!.

The only thing I'm on decided it on, is the roof/a pillar colour. On the MK2 you got a black roof/a pillars...yet they opted against this on the MK3 Monte....

All in after a week really chuffed with it... glad I got another one

We've had ours for just over 6 months now and are also very happy with it. I thought mpg wasn't the best at mid 30's to begin with but has now levelled out to mid 40's (mainly town driving, with a run at the weekends) which I'm perfectly happy with.

I'll report again on mine in the coming months. Incidentally, in case any of you are interested, I got a beautiful set of fitted rubber mats off Ebay for £22.99 delivered. They are edged checker plate pattern and look superb in the car. Also keeps the carpet mat set out of harms way.

I'd be interested to know what your 17" Savios look like. When mine arrived with them fitted, it turns out they are literally the 17" Twist alloys renamed, and not the same as the Savios that Skoda have been selling as an accessory extra. Only slightly different but confusing!

There are two versions of the Savio.

The Rapid Spaceback SE Sport / accessory version... which has like a brushed/cut looking edges of the spokes and around the rim.

The Montes are all black with a bushed /cut looking rim

So the 'Rapid' versions are also available on the Fabia - they're even featured in my Fabia brochure (Jan 2016) which was the one effective when I ordered my car in late June.

The Savios on mine are identical to the 'Twist' alloys as featured on the Monte Carlo page in the same brochure. The later (July) brochure features them as being 'Savios' (same pic, different name). My car is an August 2016 build so they're officially down as Savios.

Skoda shouldn't be calling them the same thing if they're two different designs. I'm not really faffed either way, but if I was pushed I do prefer the Savios with the shiny edges.

Same design but styled slighty much like the MK2 VRS Rims

The accessory Savios look nicer. But the Monte ones are growing on me

I spec'd 17'' Savios on my SE L and they loo like this...

That'll be it. So looks like there's been a change with this for post July 2016 cars.
