Amundsen sat nav - how does it compare to, say, Tomtom

Featured Replies

I'm aware that many use their mobiles for sat nav - but I'm not a mobile user so am contemplating including an Amundsen in my new build spec.  My present car has a TomTom - which I find quite good re both the clarity of the mapping and the voice instructions -

Would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has got an Amundsen.

It's a bit clunky compared to a stand alone unit

A bit of a steep learning curve I have found

I'm pretty tech savvy and this is also my first Amundsen

Address entry is not as straight forward as it should be

I also have an issue trying to get auto zoom to work probably I press it and it goes to either 300 yards or 700 yards press it again and it says auto but stays at one particular zoom

No doubt I am doing something wrong and someone hopefully will be along soon and help us both

Overall though it's a good unit albeit non user friendly os in my opinion

Thanks for that - if it's one thing I really dislike it's non intuitive or non user friendly systems.

Think I will forget the Amundsen and just use my existing portable sat nav  as and when needed

Wait for a few more opinions first

Most factory sat nav on nearly all marques are not that easy to get to grips with

That being said though I wouldn't go back to a tom tom etc

You can use either Google maps or apple maps via mirror link should you wish

I have NAVIGON on my iPhone but no way to use it with the car screen. Having used Amundsen for a week or so it's not awful but not as good as NAVIGON. I'll keep going with it. The car I chose was already built with it but with this experience of it, I wouldn't order another car with it. Things are evolving with app use and I'd expect some defrosting of apple car play to include other apps before long. (Although I've been wrong before!)

It will be intresting to see, the lack of whatapps from car play etc would to me seem like they are trying stop people using non apple apps.... but there a mixture of third part streaming apps that you can use... so its hard yo say. It realitivly early days for car play so fingers crossed.

If apple have a hand in they will restrict as many 3rd party apps as possible

Im not sure they will get away with it.... it depends how Android apprach it. As before you know it carplay/android auto might be a deciding a factor when selecting a phone.

Im due an upgrade in Feb... so il be looking at android auto

Waze should be ready by then hopefully
