CR170 Aux Belt?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My 2011 VRS CR170 is going in to Skoda tomorrow to have the timing belt kit and water pump changed.

On previous cars I've had you tend to replace the Aux belt at the same time (as it's off anyway) but cant find any mention on here of anyone having done that as a precautionary measure?

Is it generally not needed on the VAG CR 2.0 TDI?

Cheers!

I replaced my aux belt at the same time as the cambelt. Mostly as the aux belt has to come off anyway so there is no extra labour charge.

A new aux belt should only be £15-£20 so far from expensive.

Thought as much, I'll nip into TPS and get one after work and ask the dealer to fit the new one tomorrow while they're in there.

Cheers!

I got my dealer to fit a new aux belt at the same time as the cambelt on my old octavia vrs, they just charged for the belt as it had to come off anyway. The old one looked fine but i was happy it had been replaced.

Just dropped the car off there, they're doing it for an extra £21 for the part, no-brainer at that price!

Cheers!

VAG just say to inspect the belt and replace as necessary.

I say for the sake of a few ££s it's a no brainer. It's been known for them to just snap, get caught in the cambelt and wreck the engine!
