Infotainment USB

Does plugging a USB hub in work on the Columbus, is it safe as long as the power draw is no more than 500mA? - dashcam for power, USB memory stick for media?

Galaxy Note 4 it can't charge :(

Is the USB port only 500mA?

If so that is pretty useless being that smart phones today are 2A or 3A chargers.

Is the USB port only 500mA?

Kind of. Possibly. If they are strictly following USB 1.0 / 2.0 specs, they will either be a max of 500mA or 1500mA depending on whether Skoda have deemed them standard downstream or charging downstream. 3.0 is higher and 3.1 (I think) higher still.

Power supplies can be greater as they are 'charge only' ports, which is why an iPad charger is 2.1A

The port won't be 'useless' for charging phones; it may not charge as quick as a wallwart charger, but it will still charge your phone just fine.

In my wife's fiat 500 the USB cannot charge my phone. It can sustain it on a charge level, say 50% but it does not have enough power to grow the % power. Because of that I never use the USB and instead use 12v lighter socket to USB plug.

Just hope the new Superb is not the same.

Had no problems charging iphone 6, it charges up to 100%.

Does plugging a USB hub in work on the Columbus...

No, at least not that it gives you any advantage. I plugged an unpowered hub into the USB port and anything I tried plugging into the hub came up with a USB Error message. Plugging a single iPhone into the hub would charge the phone if nothing else was connected but it wouldn't recognise the presence of the phone.
