VRS . Leaking door

Featured Replies

So i discovered yesterday that water had pooled a little bit, but not run down to the mat or anything, so it was essentially just where the pictures show it:

This morning though it'd rained more, so the whole lining was full where it originally pooled and started dribbling down the back of the drivers seat (Im in Sweden, so have left hand drive), easy enough to dry up..

Anyway, this in conjunction with my drivers side automatic lock not working unless i open/close with a key all seems to point towards rain coming through the rubber around the windows I'm assuming.. SO what should i do to stop the leaking first and foremost? We're getting very close to extremely cold weather here, and if the door freezes i may not be able to open it the way it's leaking now.

If you or a previous owned had the door cards off the waterproofing has most likely been cut and is letting the water through from inside the door. Rain water gets inside the the windown seal and flows a drain the bottom. Check the srains are clear then get the door cars off and check the plastic liner for holes - good quality duct tape will sort any problems

You mean the plastic liner between the door card and the door I guess? And i assume the drains are at the bottom of the door .. little holes? Never seen them, so just making sure.

Yup. Small gaps in the underside of the door to let water back out.

and yeah, the plastic sheeting behind the door card is the membrane. The water in your pic is suspiciously close to the door speaker, so if that fiddled with or changed at some point odds are it wasnt 100% sealed before the door was put back together.

After about 15 attempts on my near side rear door I gave up. Near side front door was fine from first attempt, bloody plastic crap! Still to this day water sits there new door seal the lot :( Tucking the plastic sheeting inside the door at the bottom so it ran off to the inside worked for a while but that was all. I now keep a folded piece of good quality kitchen roll on the inner sill where water likes to collect for ease of eviction, which will be a daily business again soon no doubt. Condensation mayhem just from water sat there carpet and underlay all bone dry but having that little puddle makes it a steam room. Oh how I dread what I will find at 4am tomorrow when I go to leave for work. At least it shouldn't be ice on the inside just yet. Roll on summer 2017!

When i stripped my rear drivers door to chamge the lock i ran a bead of clear silicom along the line the old plastic had followed then stuck the new over it and 3M duct taped all along the perimeter. Seems to be working so far *touchwood*

I seems to recall somebody somewhere putting a piece of cut to size thin metal plate over the bottom half and welding the joint :D may have been a mkiv golf cant remember, but it worked ;)

I get the same pooling on my nearside front door. I too have had the door card off and added extra plastic sheet behind the speaker area inside the door to no effect. I have solved the issue by ensuring that the nearside of the car is on the lower side of the camber of my drive way when parked. If I reverse the car in, I get pooling during heavy rain but not if I drive forward onto the drive!

Well i dried the underside of the door of with a paper towel, and the towel got really black, so i did it til clean, and luckily that did stop the water leaking in.. And i hope it's enough.
