Three - hugely disappointed

GG in my area is crippled by an incorrect set up on the Malvern transmitter, if I move to a different transmitter - say Worcester, my speeds go up 3x or more, even with a lower signal.

It's capacity.

O2 customers get priority over their pet project. And MVNs who pay for access.

No, the speed is consistent any hour of the day or night, and even O2's own customers have complained; Waitrose in Malvern have an "O2 Wifi hotspot", speeds there are exactly the same - 46Kb before I complained to the CEO, and 1.2Mb after.

Given their Wifi doesn't touch the mobile network, and goes through BTOR, perhaps Malvern is encased in lead?

I defy you to get an LTE speed lower than my GiffGaff 3G speed, even with full H+ and LOS on the transmitter, I get 1-1.2Mbps.

And before you blame my phone, SWMBO's new Samsung gets the same. She gets NO 4G signal, indoors or out, despite us supposedly being in a "Good Indoor reception" area, and her phone handling all the UK LTE bands.

That's because O2 throttle the GiffGaff speeds to around 2meg.

We put an O2 and a GiffGaff sim in the same iPhone in the office a while back..... With the GiffGaff sim in it got around 1.5-2meg but with the O2 sim it was something like 20meg.

Me and the mrs are both on Three and have been for a few years now. We are both on sim only 200 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited data with a 12gb per month tethering limit. Think we pay £20 a month. Speed wise at work I get 4G and speeds of around 50-60meg and at home 4G again with slightly slower speeds of around 30-40meg. I work in Doncaster and never loose signal at any point on my drive from North Sheffield in to work.... A distance of around 25 miles.

Thanks, I expected GG to get less than O2 customers, but even so, 10% is a farce.

I would post more, but Bingo Boffin has forgotten his backpack, and I have to return to his hobbit hole and collect it.

I've been with Three for 2 years now coming from Vodafone (very poor, virtually unusable and dire customer service) and my wife is on EE. We both use the same phones and found that whilst my Three 4G connection isn't as fast as what my wife gets on EE, I get a much better coverage. When neither of us are getting a 4G signal and having to use 3G is still get around 12-15 MB's were as my wife is barely into the single digits and most of the time unusable. Just doing a Speedtest on my phone now which is currently picking up a 3G connection due to being in a dip yet only a few miles out of Leeds city centre, I'm getting 49ms ping, 19.46 MB's download and 2 MB's upload which is plenty fast enough for most of my requirements.

This compares with my fastest 4G connection of 48ms ping, 67.71 MB's download and 22.08MB's upload which is from my home on high ground between Leeds and Huddersfield (Vodafone wouldn't get any reception)

I recently moved away from EE when they withdrew the 'phone over wifi' option for Blackberrys which was the only thing to make my mobile usable at home.  I moved to id mobile, which runs on 3, and have had better coverage pretty much everywhere I've been.  I don't use streaming when out and about, and don't use a lot of data either.  I need a phone, not all the other garbage.

The fact that it is only half the price doesn't hurt, either.

It's unlikely that I shall be going back.

That's another thing I like about Three is there "Three in Touch" app which allows you to call/text over wifi.

So if you do happen to be out of coverage you can still use your phone over wifi. Works abroad too (if you're not in a Feel at Home destination).

Lots of companies playing the 'up to' game with 4G. If you've enough people in the area all connecting you end up with speeds lower than 3G

Was Literally unusable in Canary wharf at about 5pm when I was over there. Heavily over subscribed at that time.

I've just ordered a Three SIM to use on holiday abroad. Will be interested to see how it performs.

I've been with three for a good few years now and save a fortune using them abroad. I have no issues here aside from my uncles flat which is kinda underground, abroad it's fantastic, kept google maps and spotify going for me over the whole of France and Italy. Even in the little town my Mrs is from, they all said I wouldnt get any network, yet I got full 3G most of the time. Same in Belgium and Germany. The speeds in France were a bit hit and miss but everywhere else it was more than enough for my needs
