Coolant temperature warning light on when car reaches running temperature

Featured Replies

Dear good people

If this has already been discussed please direct me to the nearest thread.

My coolant temperature warning light keeps coming on when the temperature gauge reaches the normal mid way point on the dial.  There is definitely coolant in the coolant tank at the appropriate level.  Only thing that was happening recently was a loud fan noise particularly when shutting the engine down but also could happen at any time.

Any thoughts or suggestions from people would be greatly received.

Many thanks

Ben

Never known this one before, but it you have one of the header tanks with visible sensor prongs, the trick of scraping them with a flat blade screwdriver might work (and is cheap).

I had something similar which turned out to be a bad earth connection to the negative prong, so I ran new wire to an earthing point. It was easily found with a multimeter once I had no joy with the scraping method (certainly try that first).
