arb replacement - dropping subframe

Featured Replies

Hey folks.

I'm going to be replacing my bent front ARB soon.

Does anyone know if using those subframe position holder bolts will allow me enough space to remove and replace the ARB and keep alignment? (i may need to adjust subframe anyway)

I think you have to remove the entire subframe to remove the anti roll bar. There are 4 extra bolts the the subframe that hold the steering rack to it. Remove these then suspend the rack in its position. once the frame is off it's easier to replace the console bushes while it's off the car. Also I suggest having a friend to the help you as the sub frame is weighty.

Sounds good. Got a friend who has offered in the past so maybe... Thanks!

I did the one on the ibiza pretty much by myself. From memory, I unbolted the rack and the rear bolts, then slackened the rest. Just got someone to help me thread the old bar out and the new one in from the side.

hi again folks. Having trouble sourcing the correct bolts for the subframe to body and steering rack to subframe bolts

I went to tps today and they were not so useful but i may have some part numbers

anybody know if these are correct? anything online to help check parts?

Subframe to body --- N 019 533 10

steering rack to subframe --- N 104 921 02

Thanks!

Www.realoem.me is worth a go, but the relevant diagram is confusing bordering on misleading in terms of which bolts go where ISTR.

I think I started to make a cleaned up version a while ago, will try to find when I get home in an hour or so. :)

Found it.

Your second part number looks correct for the ones I've colour-coded red in this image - item 8, two per side - the M10s that go through subframe and console into steering rack.

The first number you quote looks like item 4 here, the rear two bolts of a bracket (3) that spreads the load from the rear of the console.

Items 5 & 6 (same part number = N 105285602) are the main rear and front M12 bolts holding consoles to body (2 each side)

Hopefully my diagram is a correct interpretation of this original, and the colour coding and extra dotted lines, and text clarifies things a touch?

Just noticed that the one I've edited is for Polo rather than Fabia, but it's all the same I think, in the relevant areas.  Click to enlarge.

Item 7 is the front wishbone bolt that often strips/seizes in the consoles, item 23 is the mounting bolt for the rear end of the dogbone (22).

Neither item 6 nor 8 actually go through the wishbone as it appears in this image. That appearance is just a result of where they've been drawn.

Thank you so much for your input Wino. Much clearer now :) I had seen a similar diagram before but without any real explanation. Funny that the TPS guy today had a really simple diagram with none of that on it. Presume it was just the wrong diagram!

Mine is an Ibiza so going on the assumption it is the same

Thanks!

Ibiza (2004) equivalent here. Change the year in the drop-down box near the top of that page for other years.

Ordered the bolts and looked at that guide  (should have looked for it before now hahaha). Thank for the help!
