How to fit a usb charge socket?

Featured Replies

Having just bought my '10 plate Fabia TDi estate, I was dismayed to find the only power is half way down the centre console.

What I want to do is add a single/twin usb charge socket somewhere closer to the radio so I can charge my phone without long trailing cables.

I have looked at removing the blank plate below the air vent but it just seems to be a cover and didn't want to come completely off. The other option is the 2 spare sockets by the gear lever.

I have a 12V to 2xusb adaptor which is quite large (This one) and a bare one with terminals and the 2 usb at the end (can find a link) which is the width of the usb sockets and about 4" long.

So if I could remove the blank plate and fit the bare one in there it would be smartest. (Glueing the usb to the front and covering in heat shrink.)

Or if anyone has better ideas?

I have the usual tools,(facia remover, multi tool, hot glue etc.)

Any help would be welcome.

Can't seem to edit the above post.

THIS is similar to the bare usb adapter I have.

So 54 views and no one has any ideas?

The wires probably run down behind the Radio and along the centre console.

If it was me, i would just unplug the one beside the handbrake and pull the wires back up, drill a hole in the glovebox and fit the replacment in there instead.

We’ve just bought a 2010 Fabia estate and have the exact same issue, did you come up with a solution for this?

Nope I ended up getting a dual usb/ciggy adapter (like this one) that fits in the cup holder and ran the cable to the standard socket.
