Odometer Mileage

Featured Replies

Guys

For some reason my odometer mileage keeps swapping between overall miles travelled (E.G 25K) and trip miles whilst driving - this is without pressing the black button within the dash pod , every time it swaps to trip miles it reset itself.

Last time it was in for servicing I asked the garage to check the instruments - no faults logged within the computer - anybody have any ideas what's going wrong.

Mine does the same. Once moving I get miles travelled. Nothing to worry about.

Mine used to show total mileage then once ignition was on & engine running it showed the trip mileage & didnt change from that until you switched the engine & ignition off then it went back to total mileage, pressing the trip button would would change it from one to the other.Mine didnt change by itself when driving.

Been out to double check this. My odo changes to a speed reading in kph once above 10kph.

Mine didnt do that, maybe your car has the maxidot display & mine & the op have the normal non maxidot dash as both are pre-facelift.

Thanks guys for the reply -

I can sit with the ignition on (engine not running) overall mileage showing then it swaps to trip mile which is zero - back to overall mileage then to trip miles, back to overall miles the trip miles and it keeps doing this.

Start the car and its still going between one or the other, move the car and its still doing the same, then it decided to go to trip miles but never gets passed 5.0 miles before it resets itself.

Then it will throw another dicky fit and flash between overall miles / trip miles until it decides whether it going to be trip or overall mileage - I think my clock have had it especially the section in the middle of the instrument panel - by the way it not a matrixdot version.

The reset button works - I can hear it clicking as you push it and it will swap from overall miles to trip miles when its not having a dicky fit, but when it throws a dicky fit it does not matter what you do whether the button is being pressed it still swaps from overall to trip miles. I need to get the clocks out and see whats happened to the circuit board. Is there any truth in the rummor - that if you remove the clocks the imobiliser kicks in.

it did on mine when i made the mistake of turning the key whilst the instrument cluster was out.

Guys

As i have issues with my clocks as per the above content I'm considering changing my clock to matridot - I've heard that these clock require programing to suit a different car - am I right and how easy is it to do.

The car is a pre face lift vrs (56 plate) and I have found a pre face lift matridot clocks (06 plate)

many thanks for the reply - so for somebody who has VCDS / Vagcom it should be easy.

I live in south cheshire - do you know of anybody that I can contact to assist me - South Cheshire / North Staffordshire (not far from the border between the two counties)

No, it needs something like VAG commander or ODIS -- VCDS can't be used to program the mileage.
