Thinking of fitting some gauges...

Featured Replies

There's no escaping the fact it still sounds like a tractor, but in an effort to make it feel a bit more sporting I think I'm going to go for some gauges in the Fabia.

I'm thinking RaidHP gauges, for boost, oil pressure and oil temp (might as well go for the gauges that are most likely to tell me if the engine or turbo's about to go pop) mounted in a triple mount on the A-pillar. But before I part with the readies, can anyone tell me:

1. If you have successfully managed to fit a boost gauge in the cabin without drilling the firewall?

2. If this was done through the grommet behind the airbox, is there enough room for the gauge wires and a 4awg power cable?

3. Is there a sender on the Fabia engine for oil pressure and oil temp, and if so, where can I find it?

PS I know the boost gauge probably won't be jumping all over the place like it did in my old 200SX, but I keep looking at all the gauges in two of my mates cars (Smart Roadster and Nissan 350Z) and feeling left out :D

Woop woop! Just gone over 1,000 posts! I'll have to celebrate with an extra pint later :D

flatfourburble is your man, think he's had some ups and downs with his gauges though, not sure what state there at now, but I am sure he'l be along shortly

Do you know what gauge's Mike's got in his?

Lager by chance??

Lager by chance??

Could try diesel but don't think it would agree with me...

1. If you have successfully managed to fit a boost gauge in the cabin without drilling the firewall? NOPE. HAD DRILLED FOR 4AWG WIRE ALREADY. BOOST PRESSURE PIPE FOR GUAGE IS VERY NARROW THOUGH

2. If this was done through the grommet behind the airbox' date=' is there enough room for the gauge wires and a 4awg power cable? AHEM. SEE ABOVE. :D THERE IS ONCE A GOOD HOLE HAS BEEN DRILLED. ;)

3. Is there a sender on the Fabia engine for oil pressure and oil temp, and if so, where can I find it? ABSOLUTELY AND POSITIVELY NO IDEA, BUT WOULD LOVE TO KNOW.

:) :)

Ah, so someone else has beaten me to it I see... oh well, should at least be able to offer some input on the job...

I know they're not to everone's taste, but I like them, and more importantly I like being able to monitor the car and make sure everything's working as it should be. No harm paying extra attention to the health of your vehicle, you know... ;)

BUMP!

Anyone know if the fabia engine has senders for oil pressure or oil temperature?

There must be a pressure sender somewhere - for the dashboard light - but I don't remember any reference to it on Vag-Com, so it's probably directly wired to the instrument panel.

I think it's Allard who will be pleased to sell you a replacement PD130 sump with baffles and an oil temperature sender.

Do you need a baffled sump? Could you not drill and tap the existing one?

Indeed I have, at the moment only boost is working, as I've not had time to get oil temp and pressure plumbed in yet. To be honest I'm not 100% sure where I'm going to feed it from.

One way would be through the sump, and another is though the oil sender(?) or so I've been told by a tuner.

The mount will have to be custom made for your fabia i.e. cut into shape. If your going to do it yourself make sure you have plenty of time, the mount can take upto 5 hours to get right then the time to wire up the gauges.

Oh and good luck! :D

In the past I have drilled through the sump plug and tapped a thread for the oil temp guage, that was on a Rover V8 and the sump plug was huge. The only downside on the Fabia is the sump plug should be replaced at every oil change, so you'll need to tap and drill for every 12 months.

That's not a bad idea. I have a mate who works for an engineering company, I could probably buy half a dozen or so sump plugs and get him to drill and tap the lot of them, so that I'll be covered for as long as I own the car, for a few beers tokens... do you know, is the same sender used for oil pressure and oil temp, or just pressure?

mine have their own senders

Where did you mount them?

The sump plug will sort the temp sender no problem, but for the pressure guage you will need to find the pressure switch for the oil light. It should be on the engine block probablly at the front somewhere near the oil filter housing. You remove it , add a T piece and screw in the original switch and your new oil pressure sender.

Hope that helps:thumbup:

Can't you get pressure senders with two outputs, one for the warning light on the dash, and one for the gauge?

I don't think I've seen one

Justin, if it helps I've been told that using the oil filter housing will cover both problems. Very much like vrsfab said.

I'm still waiting for the correct MAP Sensor spacer to enable me to fit my Boost Guage without cutting or drilling anything.

To be fair, I've kind of gone off the idea of having one now and might just ask for a refund.

What's the difference between fitting them on petrol and diesel turbos? Don't you still just find an appropriate place to fit a T-piece and bob's your uncle? Or am I missing something vital  (no cheeky answers please!)
